Hi there.

Yesterday my gf's BlackBerry finally arrived from the States, completely unlocked and ready to go.

So far I've been able to get rid of the Activation Required error, GPRS works, phone calls work. The problem is that she can receive sms, but not send.

At first I though that I just need to update the SMS centre number, but for some reason everytime I save the number and go back it's blank again.

Can anyone help me? Please don't tell me to move over to VC or MTN, I've already tried convincing her to do that and nearly lost my face.

If anyone needs help with any of the above issues that I've been able to fix I will gladly help them...

So yeah, just to clarify, can receive sms, but not send. We were able to send the request sms to Cell C for settings, and that's all, every thing else we try to send just has a red X next to it.

Make sure that the Network To Send Over is set to "Circuit Switched"

I found something similar to that on google, but can't find Network to Send Over anywhere. She's using a BlackBerry Storm 2.

Will keep on trying to find that, thanks for the info...

Wahoo! Got it working.

SMS, internet, MMS, Activation Required error, phone calls, everything, all fixed/working!

To get the last little piece of the puzzle working I just updated the firmware from 4.7 to 5.0.

@Nerf, I've never heard anything about the BB service, I have no idea what it includes... I doubt my gf even cares, she justs wants something that looks good...

Hi,

The blackberry service on vc and mtn (@R60pm) includes unlimited on device browsing, link to 10 email accounts and free send and receive (instantly) from the device.

It rocks

A blackberry without BIS just doesn't make sense to me. Unlimited on device browsing, email, facebooking, whatever for r59 per month. It really is worth looking into.

And don't forget the free bbm! Cell C will hopefully get there this month, keep fingers x!!!

Seriously, I am over waiting... why have I kept believing these promises from CellC "Coming Soon". Thats how they marketed themselves in the teaser ads at the very beginning.... nothing has changed.

Check CellC.co.za - BlackBerry stock is about to arrive...they're even accepting early bird bookings for BB devices...FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi
Do anyone have any updates on this issue? I also bought a BB from overseas and I am trying to get it to work on Cell C. The phone calls sms etc works fine, but not the BIS?
I have a few days to return the phonem but I do not want to do that! Any help?

Hi go_4

PM us your Cell C number and we'll get a technician to try help you with this.

Cell C - Blackberry - Issues making and receiving Phonecalls

I have an imported BB device - 9650

Since I have been using it ( March ) I have intermittent issues with receiving and making phone calls. When driving ( going through different reception areas ) If someone tries to phone me, they will go straight through to voice mail. If I try and make a call, I get a message saying ' Congestion '.
If I do a battery pull on the phone, this will sometimes resolve the issue, and sometimes not.

Anyone else with a similar issue ?

Found a way to avoid this ... Set the device to use a manually selected network. From the available networks, dont choose CellC but rather Vodacom.
Keep it on manual. Have used this method, since posting my last message, and havent had any problems since.

Only problem being that the phone is limited at maximum to using EDGE.

Hi MO

can i ask have you tried it on another network ?
does it work ?
Reason i ask it that is:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 2100
CDMA/EVDO Rev A 800/1900
3G is only 2100 and Cell C is 900.
Please i have never played with the 9650 BB, so open to discussion.

Regards
Armando

Hi Armando,

I havent tried it on any other network, however I am not quite sure what exactly you are asking ?

My current handset settings are on GSM and 2g only. As mentioned this works when the device is set to roaming and manual network selection, with Vodacom selected.

When I was experiencing problems, I had been using the the automatic network selection. I toggled between 2g and 2&3g. The only times, that my handset reflected 3g was when I was in the Sandton CBD, and in Durban at the Beach front.
In my opinion, the handset works correctly.
