(Another) Plasma vs. LCD/LED Thread

Depends who you listen to and what model you buy, cheap no name brands are the usual suspects but there is a few brand name issues too. Listening to some idiotic comments that ALL LED's are at fault in general is akin to listening and believing the Vitriol some people spread. The best is to review the specs and read reviews of the brand model TV you want to buy properly to see if there is any problems associated with that specific brand or model.

What you have is a really cheap LCD... I can view any of my LCD's from any angle.

Just got a ES7500 LED LCD - and the quality is amazing when compared to my previous LCD, vibrant colour - and with the various "tricks" they employ in dealing with dark scenes, I'd have trouble justifying a plasma purchase over this.

Shhhh....be quiet, someone may believe it!

While cheap TVs are most definitely affected, it has a higher prevalence with thin TVs. The thinner they are, the harder to disperse the back-light correctly. And funnily enough, it's the thinner ones that are most expensive. Case in point, Samsung D6000 - D6400, thankfully the ghetto fix of lowening the screw(s) a few mm helps.

That must really be a wonderful TV, congrats! The crux of the argument though, is that it probably costs around R15,000 for 46". For that price, we are talking 59" plasma.

But then for R15,000 I could also get a 196" HD projector... depends on what you want :)

You obviously have no clue as to the toys that pass through my house.... :p

I have yet to see a LCD/LED with PQ similar to the new Samsung range.

That wasn't pointed at you ;-).

That's a bit over the top, drama queen. There are those of us who's perfectly satisfied with our plasma purchases and funny thing, the world hasn't ended yet.

Drama queen? Lol I am not posting for you so ..............
This is a typical response from an ignorant buyer who goes to their local Game/Makro to oogle TVs and more importantly base their decisions on which tech is the best. Game/Makro/etc. are inherently flawed because they have bright shop lighting and aisle viewing distances: These are not realistic representations of most people's home conditions, so when people judge in bright stores from aisle viewing distances, it is a complete fallacy. It's a vicious cycle, after the viewing and succumbing to all the marketing gimmick, you now have non technical people punting what they think is the best tech, all based on numerous false pretences.
Ahhh there you go again, speaking out your bum. I almost listened to you and would have made a grave mistake.
To the OP, go and look at the LED's - viewing angles are perfect. Well on mine - LG 42"
Best purchase I made.

Oh and I did go to just about every store and look at all the TV's.
I view it in dark and light conditions and its amazing in both.

Obvs, why wouldn't it.

Things like "Thank God I never bought plasma" and "Plasma is yesterday" which are completely exaggerated are complete nonsense and the reason you get the attention you look for. ;) And on top of it you show no interest in understanding the OP's situation, shoving your opinion without any helpful or technical information.

Is he also shoving Plasma's and mentally perceived black levels down EVERYONE 'S throat?

This is some top garbage. ES7500 is high end stuff, if it wasn't BLACK it wouldn't SELL! :D

What are you babbling about again, geez, give your keyboard a rest, find a job or something, maybe become a TV salesman then you can mislead hundreds of poor customers in a day.

/Joking.

Just ignore him ;)
LED is the way forward, it amazes me that just about every single salesperson I speak to says the same thing.
Yes I know PP will say they earn almost no money so what do they know?
Well one of the guys I deal with makes very good money, probably more than him and he swears by LED.
I am over the moon with my unit and it has 3D as well as 3D upscaling.

My LED backlit unit as he puts it, plays SD and HD content amazingly.
A friend has the 50" plasma and it is nowhere near as vibrant.
I understand size is an issue but really, LED is amazing and I did go into many different shops and look at the difference side by side.

Dude, I know PP is annoying sometimes but this is the kinda of anecdotal opinion that actually means 0. Pretty much anyone who hasn't had a better tv before will be "over the moon" with their brand new tv once they get it home. Speaking to salespeople means nothing as well, most of them can barely tie their own shoelaces.

Then we go to the comparison between some random LED backlit tv and some random 50" plasma. That's like saying my nokia cellphone is better than my mates samsung cellphone with a colour screen. ie. we have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. If you're going to try and form a comparison at least get the model numbers of both tv's and the prices and the dates of those prices and add some meaning to your post.

Salespeople are hardly a valid source of information. It'll be a very rare one that even has the foggiest clue what they're talking about.

It's well established that LCD is brighter than plasma. That doesn't make it better. You can't even really compare until both have been properly calibrated (which invariably involves bringing the brightness way down from where people typically set it). I'm very happy with my LCD, but I don't pretend plasma doesn't have it's strengths too.

The best is to review the specs and read reviews of the brand model TV you want to buy properly to see if there is any problems associated with that specific brand or model.
Specifications are essentially worthless. Reviews can be useful.

Quality and quantity?

Kinda works for all consumer electronics ... you get less for the better item?

Makes sense what you wrote however its getting a little tiring listening to him about plasmas, why dont they just get a bloody room? :D
But agree what you wrote, IMO, LED backlit or whatever you want to call it is fantastic and great value for what you are paying.
I am over the moon with mine and I have not even set it up properly yet.
I was unimpressed with all the plasma screens I looked at. It just is not vibrant and does not hit you like LED does.
Of course this is my humble opinion and would not want to offend anyone who has or wants Plasma.
My Plasma downstairs, while it is an old unit, is never switched on

Specifications is where you start, the same as when buying a car or a house. It's your money and if someone just buy of the cuff he deserves to be unhappy later when he finds out he bought a cat in the bag.

At least you have to look at the specs for the size and compare different brands for features ;)
