Just a heads-up for all those with smartphones and the such :
Recently I was alarmed at the rate my battery was getting drained - it would only last a day or so, and needed frequent recharging.
I was at the point of committing myself to buying a new battery, but then I started to think : what was there that could be the cause of the battery drain?
Frequent reboots after a Facebook or Nimbuzz use didn't solve the problem - my initial thought that some rogue applet (or fweeplet) was playing havoc with power consumption.
Then I decided to limit the frequency of times my phone changed its wallpaper - and hit the jackpot. Seems 1 minute (and even 10 minutes) keep the phone busier than anticipated, hence the higher CPU usage (and battery drain).
It was recharged fully on Tuesday evening, and here I am with a still fully charged phone on Wednesday evening.
It might not be limited to Nokia phones - other phones might also have the same problem(s) - fancy screensaver keeping the phone's CPU busy, or some program running 24x7 in the background (which is not even needed, or neccessary). Apps which use 3G is one of the biggest chompers at the moment. Until they can figure out a way of making lean, mean and green 3g "always on" phones...
So next time your phone's battery life takes an unexpected nosedive - do check whether it indeed is that fancy 3d widget/whatchamaycallit/ect which you've enabled a few days prior - and forgot about it.
