So another undersea cable incoming..if only this one was a bit sooner...because as you know Blizzard is located in Paris :P

Johannesburg - French company Alcatel-Lucent has reached an agreement with 20 telecommunications operators worldwide to install a 17 000km submarine system that will connect South Africa to France, with 23 countries linked up along the way.

According to Alcatel-Lucent the new cable will have a capacity of 5.12Tbps, more than four times that of Seacom.

The $500m Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) cable will link Cape Town in South Africa to Penmarch in France via a submarine cable network.

Too little too late. Demand is going to boom for the World Cup and we're all going to be stuck sharing crappy seacom and sat3 with half a million tourists downloading their spam mails and posting crap on facebook all day. The next month is going to suck for wowers in azania, mark my words.

Ya would like to see what effect the SWC will have on access - if any..
 
I don't think it will be that bad. You can bet Telkom made ready for this a long time ago on their network at least. I am not so sure about the IS network though...

Other than that, I can't wait for WACS either, its another cable that will have the same excellent latency that SAT3 has. Expect many ISPs if not all to use it!
