Another which car thread

New is always better than second hand (ok well 90% of the time) so I would recommend the Mazda 2 . You will stand out leaving a great impression with the Mazda when you meet clients.

*Never buy a sporty vehicle second hand because you never know what you truly get.
*VW parts ain't as cheap as you might think (you can ask anybody on this forum).
*My general knowledge tells me the Mazda would have a lower hijack risk then the Polo

But overall take a weekend and test drive every possible vehicle until you find one that suits your needs . :)

I will do the test drives. Another Q i am gna ask is how much to replace clutch and brakes

But is the price really in the 12k mark
Who knows at dealer pricing. If they do all 4 corners discs and pads I can see it maybe being that. GM charged me 4k for front rotors and pads on a little Chev Utility 1.4 a year or two back. I could have done it myself for 1.5k but company car and warranty.

Also I edited my previous post and added my car recommendations for what it's worth.

I don't think so. It looks alot better to me and has a more premium feel

Indeed. Much better looking than a Polo and lovely to drive. IMO the interior is also miles ahead of VWNew-Polo-BlueMotion-Interior.jpg

If I may ask why is Madza 2 so expensive, is it Madza 2 on the same group as other small cars like Kia Picanto, Hyundai i10, Honda Brio, Suzuki Swift and VW Up. Please correct me maybe I'm wrong

It's a class up from those. Mazda 2 Competes with the Hyundai I20, Kia Rio, Honda Jazz, VW Polo and Ford Fiesta. (and beats them all IMO)

I think the Mazda might have keyless entry and start.... Might be a deal sealer...

I went with the Mazda 2 last year and I'm still extremely happy with it. My needs were similar to yours, I like having a modern interior but also want something reliable.

Mine is the Individual model though which has a few extras like the keyless entry, rain sensors, and auto headlights and has really nice looking alloys. I added the navigation package too and it all came to R230k last year - I see the price has gone up quite significantly now.

The only cons for me were:

- Only 2 airbags (I wish they would stop gimping safety features in our local models).
- No park distance control or rear reverse camera (not even as an extra).
- No cruise control (although this is not really a super necessary thing for a city car).
- Slightly higher road noise at highway speeds (depending on the road surface).

The car drives beautifully though and I still wouldn't pick differently if I had to do it over.

Fuel economy is really good, so nothing to worry about there. Keyless entry is the dogs bollocks, I really don't want to ever go back to a car without this. The infotainment system is pretty top notch for local cars in this price range.

If you can live with the above cons then your choice should be simple.

Definitely not.

Parts for 4 discs and pads should be R2500-R3500 maximum.

You sure she didn't just throw around crazy numbers? Or included her major service in the price etc?

I believe it's only on the Individual and up, at least on the 2016 models.

Seems to come with the base model. I am looking at one higher, the dynamic

I've got a friend with a new Mazda 2. Probably the base model. Keyless start but no keyless entry.

The dealer told me that it is only coming in on 19 April. also cruise control is now standard on Dynamic

That's the facelift. Forgot about that... I mean the new shape pre-facelift.

Not sure what changed but the bold part mentioned keyless start, not entry

Actually going to call around for any good deals o. the previous facelift model. should be decently priced and to me, new lights or grill or what ever doesn't make much of a difference

Have you considered Honda Jazz for your budget you can get a brand new one for R230k or a demo model for R190k. You can never go wrong with Honda I'm sure you will be starting a family soon, so Honda Jazz would be a perfect car for that. It has all the basic you need in a car.

Moving away from Honda if I were you I would think twice about VW Polo Vivo or Opel Crosa. For your "soft budget" you will fine a decent car just do a research and go test drive see what you like.

I love my Honda Jazz as its so versatile. We are moving house soon and when the seats a flat I can transport lots of knick knacks to our new place.

I used one of those to clear up a wedding venue last year. We got all the decoration, drinks, glassware, etc out of there in three trips! I was shocked as to how much I managed to fit in the car. Had one in in 2012 but never used it for something like that.
