Good morning IT people

I bought a new PC for use in a small business. It is a standalone and not connected to any network.

What do you recommend as antivirus software? ESET or AVG?

Thanks

What OS? Win 10? then stick with Windows Defender. PC never going to be connected to the Internet? How do you plan to handle OS updates?

Windows 10 defender... lol. No blue, dont listen to this advice please, Defender is set as the bottom baseline in testing. Thats how bad it is.

I thought win10 was the virus?
Most reviewers say it's the best Windows ever.

Any AV is snake oil and Defender is deeply integrated into Windows 10 making it much more effective. The creators update (already finalized) also have many Defender related updates.

Windows Defender Security Center
Windows Defender has been added as a default app
You can now run a quick, advanced and full scan
"Device performance & Health" had been added
You can now check for updates directly from the "Virus & threat protection" page
You can now change the Windows Defender settings in Defender itself
Windows Defenders settings are now functional
Family options now help you set up a family or view device information
You can now refresh your PC in Windows Defender
You can now manage SmartScreen for apps, Edge and Windows Store

Lets see what others' have to say. I will respond as follows, knowing that the Symantec hate club are going to pounce.

I have two PCs I help maintain. One has Windows Defender activated but has Norton installed and not used, and the other is regularly updated to the latest Windows Defender but runs Norton AV. When they bring the PC's to me for their once a month update sessions, I disable Norton on the one and check it using Defender and vice versa. Guess what the outcome is? NO difference at all nada, both PC's report a clean bill of health ....

Avira. People don't seem to like it here for some reason, but as a gamer I have no reason to dislike it, and it's verified as the strongest year on year. Nothing to dislike from my side.

Rubbish. If you are making silly statements like this you are not qualified to talk on the topic. Do you know anything about infosec?

I've been using Bitdefender for over two years and never had a virus.

That said, I am thinking of cancelling after this subscription because they are REALLY pushy with continual reminders to renew the licence and purchase the next special offer from them
