My Kaspersky Internet Security Multi Device has expired and they want R1124.95 for a renewal.

I face a similar issue. Just that a number of my machines still run on XP and the only KIS that works is the 2013 which hogs resources, so another suggestion would be nice for these XP machines, an Anti Virus/Firewall that still has XP support.

Wow, so many different opinion. I used to have ESET on the previous PC (OS was Windows 7) and it worked quote well. i had no issues of note, which is why I though to get it again ... ? The IT person who set up the new PC recommended AVG though, he says that even the free version of AVG is fine.

Avast, Avira, AVG, Kaspersky, Nod32. I can go on and on. Snakeoil. As long as you use one that gets updated everyday you'll be fine.

So you can buy 2 condoms. 1 is 99% effective, the other only 90%, according to conclusive tests. Which would you buy?

Integration with Windows means jack - if it's not designed to catch the virus, or it's not in their database, it's not gonna catch it. Finish en klaar.

I've been using Bitdefender for over two years and never had a virus.

That said, I am thinking of cancelling after this subscription because they are REALLY pushy with continual reminders to renew the licence and purchase the next special offer from them

They are regarded (surprisingly enough as I am not a fan) as one of the strongest defenses out there)

For the longest time I punted anything but Windows Defender. I paid for McAfee Internet Security and switched to BitDefender Free until I found a bunch of new 0-days and Ransomware which BitDefender, to this day, still has no signature for, after submitting samples to both them and Microsoft.

Windows Defender with Cloud-based Protection switched on is very capable.

Eset - been using it trouble free for more than a decade.

Eset Anti-Virus - not the whole Eset Suite

PS: If you've had no issues, go with what you trust and are familiar with.

Im using Windows Defender for over 4 years now on 3 PC's at home. I never had virus issue's or any issue for that matter on any of my machines. All pc's are connected to the internet and are updated. Honestly I dnt know the right technical answer when it comes to AV software, answer but this what works for me.

I'm not going to screw every person just because I have a condom on. Whether it's 90% or 99% effective is beside the point. It's got great protection against ransomware and a more then good enough real time scanner not to mention the cloud based protection etc.

Install Avast and run a full scan, then you will see how many it picks up.

Must Windows Defender be uninstalled (if that is even possible!) before another AV program is installed?
