Antiperspirants

Don't worry people, the scary stories about aluminium have absolutely no scientific background and were refuted by the biggest cancer and alzheimer institutions.

the reason why you don't have to be concerned at all is because the active ingredient in modern antiperspirants is not absorbed into the bloodstream because it is bound with skin protein immediately and sticks to the inner wall of the sweat ducts where it is just flushed out over time again. the natural flow of the sweat goes OUT of the body. It is therefore not possible to enter the bloodstream.

Even if you use antiperspirants every day it only adds up to about 5% of your total daily aluminium use since it is very common in our lives and found even in oxygenated water, food, cosmetics, medicin...

The largest, trustworthy institutions all over the world have already refuted those false claims.

If you are still concerned about the safety of antiperspirants then just go for more effective ones that you only have to apply once a week, so you reduce application and you shouldn't be worried about it at all anymore.

They even go so far with the aluminium paranoia that people write on the internet you shouldn't use aluminium pans anymore or drink out of cans anymore because the aluminium goes over into the food... what a nonsense.

Personally I have no doubt that aluminium can be harmful, but not in form of salts from an antiperspirant.

Trying to find an anti-antiperspirant without aluminium is very hard. I use the Mitchum gel stick which is the only one I could find.

I guess you should read the label first before you make such claims. Mitchum's antiperspirants go up to 25% aluminium, more than all the other one which usually have 20%.

It is the formulation that makes an antiperspirant effective, not only the amount of active ingredient.

I know of 2 cases of ppl that got problems with regards to this. The one's underarm sweat glands got swollen immensely and she had to have it removed

This was simply a skin irritation which happens if you over apply strong antiperspirants or mix it with sweat or water.

Having Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy done has certainly nothing to do with any side effects of aluminium.

Sorry Hot Chocolate, but you must have misunderstood something there.

Everyone can take their own scent... so make sure yours is stronger than everyone else's.

Hint: Eat lots of garlic, drink rum, curries, and food and vegetables with a high Sulfur content (beans, cabbage, asparagus, eggs etc.)

:)

Hi,
I just read the following on Wikipedia:
Aluminium, present most often in antiperspirants, but not usually present in non-antiperspirant deodorants, has been established as a neurotoxin.[11][12][13] Aluminum itself adversely affects the blood-brain barrier, it is capable of causing DNA damage, and has adverse epigenetic effects.[11][14] Research has shown that the aluminum salts used in antiperspirants have detrimental effects to a number of species such as non-human primates,[15] mice,[16] dogs[17] and others. An increased amount of aluminum is also present in the brains of many Alzheimer's patients, although this link does not seem to be causal.[18][19][20]

Experiments with mice applying aqueous solution of aluminum chloride to the skin resulted in "a significant increase in urine, serum, and whole brain aluminum"[21] and transplacental passage.[16]

Is this true?
Are we just ignorant of the bad affects anti-antiperspirants have?
I sweat quite a lot so I need to use an antiperspirant twice a day, but I prefer sweat to "DNA damage"

Nonsens, antiperspirants are safe to use, everybody knows that by now. Seems like the message hasn't reached SA yet :p

Good answer, thanks for the interesting links. Should clarify the issue.

Yes anti-perspirants are not good for you at all. Rather use deodorant.

Just that deodorants don't prevent you from getting disgusting sweat patches, so what's the point of that?

A deodorant is not a replacement for an antiperspirant.

Hi alkit ,

Well,Most people put on either deodorant or antiperspirant before leaving the house. There are some products that perform both functions. These products are used to control sweat and odour in our underarms. There are two types of glands in our underarms, apocrine and eccrine. The eccrine glands are by far the most numerous sweat glands and are responsible for producing most of the sweat in our underarms, as well as in our entire body.

Thanks

Backstreetboy's Salt of the Earth Crystal Classic Deodorant Rock review

After losing one in Spain I decided to get some more. You get them in different sizes. It's best to apply it after a shower or you can just wet the crystal. You still sweat but it doesn't smell. Also doesn't leave marks on your clothes or give you wet underams. Also doesn't cut you like some others.

TL;DR should you buy it?
Yes it works for me. Will have to see how long it lasts but some say it lasts for 3+ years so will see.
