Hi,
I just read the following on Wikipedia:
Aluminium, present most often in antiperspirants, but not usually present in non-antiperspirant deodorants, has been established as a neurotoxin.[11][12][13] Aluminum itself adversely affects the blood-brain barrier, it is capable of causing DNA damage, and has adverse epigenetic effects.[11][14] Research has shown that the aluminum salts used in antiperspirants have detrimental effects to a number of species such as non-human primates,[15] mice,[16] dogs[17] and others. An increased amount of aluminum is also present in the brains of many Alzheimer's patients, although this link does not seem to be causal.[18][19][20]

Experiments with mice applying aqueous solution of aluminum chloride to the skin resulted in "a significant increase in urine, serum, and whole brain aluminum"[21] and transplacental passage.[16]

Is this true?
Are we just ignorant of the bad affects anti-antiperspirants have?
I sweat quite a lot so I need to use an antiperspirant twice a day, but I prefer sweat to "DNA damage"

Yes anti-perspirants are not good for you at all. Rather use deodorant.

I perspire and can't stand the effects of alcohol-based deoderants. So I found a brand of antiperspirant that is alcohol-free. Now I can't use it??? This is terrible

Spray on that aluminium folks! Betcha it's a Unilever product. Don't worry, Unilever will take care of your alzheimers; they have big stakes in pharmaceutical companies. :D

What effects do they have?

AFAIU the aluminium particles block the sweat glands and do not enter the bloodstream.

Alcohol-based stuff (ie about 90% of deoderant products) irritates my skin, probably due to drying the skin faster.

Well, if the Wiki article is correct, then it does seem as if the Al is entering the bloodstream. After all, either the stuff is excreted again by the skin, or else travels out via the bloodstream, IMO.

Trying to find an anti-antiperspirant without aluminium is very hard. I use the Mitchum gel stick which is the only one I could find.

There's that, which costs

Apparently there are also tea-tree products, although I'm not sure I'd like to smell like a holistic products shop either

One minute it's ok, next it's bad. It's the way health topics/findings go.
We must just live our lives!

I know of 2 cases of ppl that got problems with regards to this. The one's underarm sweat glands got swollen immensely and she had to have it removed
