So just like the title, any difference between TRL tech uncapped (link) for R180 and mweb uncapped for R219?

Do they both get their bandwidth from the same place? Have the same shaping policies etc?

Thanks

If you check the many threads here on the current performance of Internet Solutions resellers it seems that MWeb is the way go.

That said, I'm with axxess (also a IS reseller, but no longer signing up additional cheap uncapped users) and hoping for promised improvements in the next 6 weeks.

My advice - go with MWeb for the time being, you can cancel with one months notice if things improve with IS.

So MWeb <> IS?

I wonder how ftp is shaped with the IS offering, cos that's what I'll be using 95% of the time.

FTP on Mweb is not shaped. I get 420kbs on a single thread from ftp. With IS I'm lucky if I get 100kbs

Nope MWeb don't resell IS - its their own offering.

ftp is shaped to hell and gone with IS during the day and really only picks up late at night, early hours of the morning.

the difference is R39.

Ok seriously though. Most smaller ISP's use IS (Internet Solutions) to provide their bandwidth.
Mweb,Telkom,Neotel have their own connetions to Seacom Cables etc.
Also alot of people seem to complain about IS but I am not sure if TRL use them. If they not tying to to a contract why not try them both out for one month and see who you prefer.

Thanks, will stick to MWEB then.

FTP is not shaped with IS since it is classed as a business protocol. It gets the same priority as POP3, SMTP etc.

M-Web do not use IS for their uncapped offerings. You are welcome to do a traceroute on your M-Web uncapped account to confirm this.

Just tested a ftp download (ubuntu iso) from UCT; IS(axxess) 14.7KB/sec, Telkom 5GB unshaped 41.3KB/sec. The IS speed is actually pretty good for this time of day.

Who said they did

Typo, m-web are using IS for their uncapped accounts.

M-web are not using IS - they have their own IPC for all their accounts.

Why would anyone get their internet from a company that hasn't a clue about who or what their competitors of using. Hello?! This is old news! Where have you been hiding and what business do you have being an ISP if you haven't a clue regarding who is a tier1(.5) network?!

So, TRLTech get their shizz from IS (you get it via telkom last mile), MWEB get their shizz from MWEB (you get it via telkom last mile). Difference being, MWEB is far more stable right now than IS, and I would avoid it like the plague.

I would have to disagree with your reply that M-Web is more stable than IS. Many users have been complaining about the speed the last few days: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?230332-Terrible-speeds-on-mweb and http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ed-Difference-between-last-week-and-this-week

See this speedtest result for my 4MB shaped uncapped (IS):

Yes, the one works and the other does not....

No prizes for guessing the correct one, by now it is rather apparent: Issues; Problems; Down; Pathetic; etc.

They start a price war and run away like a schoolboy.

One of them decided to host their services in SA, the other not. I can get to one of them's websites, not the other's. I'll let you decide which is which.

(On a 6Mbps link).

6 of the one, half a dozen of the other...
