Any idea when the network will be 'usable' again?

I can't even download anything from the microsoft site, since they started with their international carrier '48 hr upgrade' on thursday. Any one heard from them how long we gonna suffer like capped adsl users? :P

Tho' I haven't specifically tried d/l'ing from MSFT today, I HAVE pretty much been all over the place catching up on my regular reading and, in the main, I've had no problems ..that said, at this site, I AM sitting on a "Classic/Business" connection; I suspect that on anything lesser YMMV.

edit: windowsupdate seems to be somewhat out of reach for me too! :( -I'm getting gateway timeout messages ..cancel that, after a couple of retries it seems to be loading just fine: I'm also now downloading 329MB worth of a service pack file and it's running at around the 12-17KB/s mark (for now, at least)

The problem seems to be international sites. I phoned Sensuck..I only got the "we can't take your call right now because of high volumes" message...

Haven't tried this morning, but it was absolutely FLYING on Saturday and Sunday! MyWi256.

International unusable

International is VERY bad today... downloads at less than 1KB/Sec! Local is OK. I'm really sick of Sentech's lack of reliability. I had a call from them last Thursday to say they are changing international carrier and that speed will improve significantly within 2 days. I'm going to cancel if they don't come right very soon.

I don't believe it .........

..... is it possible that Sentech still has some subscribers.

When is the next wardrive RoDent ?

This time no beer, shooters for every packet dropped !

International has been cutting in and out since their "switch

WHY DID THEY CHANGE ???!!!

Well, I assume that the speed at which I'm downloading the latest version of Skype (a blistering 3.5KB/s) is indicative of a rather unsuccessful international bandwidth carrier switch. I went through all this nonsense for 6 months last year. I certainly hope that this is not a repeat performance.

Who did they switch carriers from/to? International traffic is routing through IS right now. I thought we were routing through IS before this anyway? Does this mean the carrier switch was aborted?

MyWi 256.

Hmmm... well maybe it's just my tower then (Randburg Metro), although it is definitely only international downloads that are so slooow. I get long periods of inactivity when downloading from international sites.

Thanks for the feedback, Luke. I've now noticed some odd behaviour on downloads - I can get up to 25KB+ but only with multithreaded downloads. Any single thread seems to be limited to about 3.5KB but they are additive - i.e. 4 download threads gives me a total of about 13/14KB, 8 download threads gives up to max speed on 256kb connection. Proasm mentioned the other day that they'd somehow wiped the router configs??? This might be the result - up to mid sept it wasn't working like this - before any single thread tried to use up whatever bandwidth was available.

Yip, forgot to mention that my d/l was 4 threads. Will quickly check a wget with cache off on the same file

/EDIT

Ok, wget somewhere in August :

450K .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... 6% 27.59 KB/s

Pathetic, Extortion

I just downloaded Firefox at a sizzling 3 kB/sec! That's on a 512 package so I could be spending half the amount and getting the same speeds. Sentech may as well just open my wallet and take my cash!

Entrepr, you currently probably have the full amount of bandwidth available, but only if you download using multiple threads - it's just that each thread seems to be throttled at 3KB.
