Any truth in this FB post?

Well I hope it is and I do think it is BS, but I need to know.
I run a racing forum and loadshedding is already hurting us badly.
This has the possibility to kill online racing for us.

Some guys are already renting or have bought generators or other backup solutions, but not everybody can afford it.

I've posted the question now on Eskom's FaceBook page, but I don't get the idea that they answer questions or comments.

I'm intrigued as to which online racing forum/league you run.

I'm assuming this is how the post started. The person is possibly in one of the published areas and the post was possibly selectively copied and pasted.
I think it was Zolly, that already pointed in this direction.

Eskom to cut power to top 20 defaulting municipalities

ANA

In a statement, Eskom said it had moved to notify all parties “who are likely to be materially and adversely affected” of its intentions to cut power with effect from 5 June. "As at 31 March 2015, the total municipal arrears debt greater than 30 days was R4.6 billion," Eskom said.

"Of this amount, the top 20 defaulting municipalities are currently indebted to Eskom to the amount of R3.68 billion for the bulk supply of electricity."

Interim Chief Executive of Eskom Zethembe Khoza said: "Non-payment for electricity undermines Eskom’s statutory obligation to generate and supply electricity to municipalities nationally on a financially sustainable basis. We have therefore decided to exercise our right according to the provisions of the Electricity Regulation Act 4 of 2006 and the supply agreement with municipalities, which entitled us to disconnect the supply of electricity to defaulting municipalities."

Eskom said it recognised that the disconnection of electricity supply “may cause undue hardship to consumers and members of the community, and may adversely affect the delivery of other services, however, customer disconnection is always the last resort explored”.

Eskom said it was contemplating a regulated interruption of electricity as indicated below:

Monday to Friday Saturday and Sunday
06h00 – 10h00 07h00 – 10h00
17h00 – 21h00 17h00 – 20h00.

And although I can't find it now, there was also an article on News24 (I think yesterday) which mentioned something about shortages from about June this year already too.

Can't say the FB post is true or false, but if there isn't coal, there's most certainly not going to be power either....

My municipality has just now confirmed that is applicable to those municipalities that have huge arrears.
Somebody said the same thing on the Eskom page, but I don't think that was an official reply, but I'm not affected and I doubt it will have any impact on me.

So there is some truth in it apparently, but was probably incorrectly quoted by someone and in general not true for most of us, even it is implemented.

The City of Johannesburg intends to introduce peak pricing tariffs during June, supposedly between 07h00 - 10h00 and 18h00 - 22h00 (or similar).

Daily load shedding between 06h00 and 10h00 would kill industry ...
Peak pricing tariffs are a good solution and should be introduced everywhere in the country ASAP. Peak pricing will make battery packs attractive which are just designed to cover the high-cost times and then are the base for an photovoltaic or other home generation scheme.
Simply many people cannot afford both - panels and batteries - at once.
Two step helps a lot.

Industry must get more flexible, shifting working times for example to mitigate times of high use to non-peak times.

Not a chance! Eskom promised that loadshedding will stop on 1 June, because why that is when winter officially starts.
