It's 2 days to payday and I got like R40 left in my wallet that I haven't used since Friday. I basically did f***all the whole weekend. By my calculation tomorrow night I have no electricity. Softlocked on my contract sim and R0 balance on my prepaid one. And yet I'm happy.

Happens to me every month. Luckily my wife gets paid the 23rd which means she got paid on Friday :D

How can you be happy? You are totally broke? What's there to be happy about?

It's not like I'm in the red. I just made some bad (Unisa fees, Alcohol, clubs) decisions this month.

It's weird I know. It's like the ancient adage "No money, no problems." I have no money to waste, I didn't lie to my friends when they tried to borrow money (This time I meant it when I said I had nothing) and plus it feels good not having to take a taxi in the afternoon.

You study :wtf:

How do some of you guys get by on like R50-R100 for a week before payday? :wtf:

I know, sometimes I do it myself, and it boggles my mind. If only I could do that on the other 3 weeks. I'd be bloody rich!

But Ninja'd...I do have those weeks before payday with nothing in my account, but never so bad that I couldn't pay elec or cellphones etc. LOL.
I just get through my disposable income too early, and am stuffed for the weekend.

Work for a retailer that allows you to buy expired but still perfectly edible food at 60-90% discounts. R100 goes very far then :D

Last year I had R0 to my name for the last week of the month. I ran out of deoderant in that week... Not good haha

Fuel is going up again, 24c I think . . .

Easy. I just make sure that:
1. There is enough food in the cupboard till month end and enough money to buy bread.
2. There is enough fuel in my car's tank to make it to work and back till pay day.
3. I don't eat out or do anything during the second half of the month.

I usually have less than R200 during the last two weeks before pay day.
Anything spare goes into debt repayments and that way I also don't have problems with family/friends trying to borrow money.
When I tell them I'm broke I really mean it. :)

I'm usually like that a week into the month;). Last month was even worse, but I always manage to get through it. Don't ask me how. Quite frankly, I'm never miserable if I don't have money.

I usually do it the other way around.
- don't go all out for the first two weeks after payday, meaning I have more money available for the next two weeks.
- do monthly shopping the week before payday when everyone else is broke. Stores are usually quieter then.
- go out etc. during the last two weeks when I know exactly how much I can afford to spend.

And even then still have around R3k spare at the end of the month. And it's not like I earn a mega salary either :D Don't have any kids though so maybe that makes a difference.
