We bought a Zebex Handheld Barcode USB Scanner (Z-3080BU) from ComX. I plugged the thing into my laptop and am trying it on various barcodes to see what will register. But so far nothing comes up. As far as I know, this thing should register the barcode scanned by displaying the code at the point of insertion where my cursor is. I went through the setup and programmed the thing... but so far nothing shows up. is it busted? What do I need?

I know with some of those USB wedge scanners, you need to actually activate the onboard barcode topologies, such as codabar, 128, 25, EAN13 etc etc

There should be something in the manual about activating them...

hmm... I don't see anything in the programming card that indicates any of those choices. The thing beeps when I scan a code, but nothing shows up on the screen.

might need to program the barcode to link to something?

naa should be able to scan it into notepad, word or watever neccessary...
Firstly you need to make sure that that particular scanner can actually scan the type of barcode you are using.
Beeping just meens that it detected a code, but the non-display meens that it couldnt decode it. Ive seen it happen before with a few clients who use wedge scanners.. ive never configured it myself but any technician involved in selling those devices should be able to explain how to get into the hardcode.

The scanner must be programmed first before it'll recognize the barcodes.

You can leave a notepad window open to capture the scanned barcodes.

I've worked with barcode scanners before.

try to cleanup that surface area of its lens... then try it again.. if it doesn't work then remove the cover and use it directly without cover...

i hope it works... i have same problem with this barcode scanners Device ;)

:wtf: I think Gary got it sorted by now, it's been almost 2 years.....

I laughed when I read this, but please keep this between us.... I also failed to notice the date.

:p
