Seems like USA and Russia are racing to get to Mars.

Interesting and fun!

Sounds interesting. Some people might be tempted to ask if there's an internet backup somewhere, but not me *whistle*.

Hahaha, I have a few ideas.

We can send South African criminals there.
We can send Jacob Zuma there - Just a thought...
We can send the @#$#@$#@'s who made Jake White leave there!

Just... you know, thinking out loud :)

Well, the advantages and disadvantages of traveling there are numerous. Chief reason is the safety it offers in case of cataclismic events like a meteor strike on earth.

My personal reason would be, to prove we can. Why the **** not! :D

And yes, it is online somewhere...

From some of the stories I read, cataclismic events happened there and everyone moved here. :)

P.S. Carl Sagan's Cosmos is on dvd and I saw it posted on usenet.
Still worth watching.

Yup, we might well be Martians (at least from an origins of life POV.

I find the Mars effort truly inspiring. I wasn't born during the Moon effort. I am alive now and this is the stuff mankind was meant to do, not frigging fly planes into buildings or attack Iraq! :)

We do the latter because we are bored I guess....

Safety? Perhaps there is some reassurance in the possibility of relocating a select cadre of people (as far as preventing the extinction of mankind goes) but the majority of the 6 billion people currently inhabiting this rock are pretty much screwed. :o

I would hazard a guess and say that the majority of the 6 billion people don't deserve to survive anyway ;) (and that especially includes 'the select cadre')

Has anyone watched Idocracy?

Idiocracy is a brilliant movie. Luke Wilson amen!

Just saw the Wendell Baker Story. I hope Owen is doing better...
