Anybody signed up with Tymebank?

No mate. All those victims clicked a link in an sms or email. I've received one of those sms's before, used my intelligence and ignored it.

I don't have sympathy for people who click on those links and lose money. If you're not intelligent or well schooled on how the world works, sorry for you!
To be fair Tyme uses OTP which is proven unsafe and like with all banks that use it people fall victim to it. Amazes me how Capitec could part with it decades ago but a new bank still insists on using archaic technology.

I agree with you that OTP by SMS is unsafe, but doesn't it still require that your password is compromised somehow? That is, if someone were able to get my SMSes, but didn't have my TymeBank password, what could they do?

Reset password?

I was transferring ~R10k between my tymebank accounts and it disappeared. I called them and had it sorted out within the hour. If they wanted to steal money why would they apologise and rush to help me like they did?

Just don't click on fishy links, its that simple
There are new laws from the government which are coming into affect as we type.
Hopefully put an end to this myriad of complaints from ripped off Tyme Bank clients.

If you don't give us details, we're just going to make fun of you.

If you give us details, we can either learn how you got defrauded, or else identify a shortcoming in TymeBank's processes. If you post what happened to you, you may save someone else from getting defrauded in the same way.

Also, we know about HelloPeter. No need to repost the entire website here.
I won.t tell you nothing ,.....just now you could be the one on the inside doing the crap.
The government is making laws ....these unreachable banks need to start sorting out all their complaints
and stop turning a blind eye to their inside thieves.

Wouldn't that also require your PIN?
No, both pin and password can be reset with OTP. Tyme does employ some extra measures but anyone with enough knowledge of your life can answer that. OTP is essentially a backdoor that gives access to everything and shouldn't be used any more.

I agree OTP is archaic and unsafe, I just wonder what the alternative would be for Tyme considering their target market?

It's a tricky situation as the mobile operators themselves are the weak link in this so that you can guarantee it will happen. At least in a branch you can set it up on an app as at that point you would know if your number was compromised.

Hi guys I have a question to ask (and I know this might not be in line with this thread but I can't seem to find a thread that talks about these banks).

I am thinking about opening a bank account. I would like to open up a Bank Zero account but I have no idea when they're launching so my ooptions for now are Capitec, African Bank and Tyme Bank. I would like a bank account that is affordable and isn't going to charge me an arm and a leg just for me to have an account. If I am able to earn interest on my account that would be amazing.

The amount of money I intend on putting into the account is around R200 a month so I really would like to avoid paying a monthly fee.

The question is how much do you want your money to be available? If you can wait a few days for Tyme to sort out issues and reverse double spends then you have your answer. You get what you pay for unfortunately and sadly Tyme doesn't excel in either the quality or service category.

If you want pure savings... go Tyme!

Go african bank. They good.

What makes them better than Capitec and Tyme Bank?

Capitec is no more a cheap bank(they were at one stage) with regards to monthly and transacting account fees.

Like capitec they have a walkin branch, service is good and waiting times(for me) were not bad at all.

Banking app works well and they have immediate payments unlike tymebank

They currently have a rewards program which makes banking with them worthwhile

Do we have any other option that is better than the Tymebank Goalsaves, that offer better interest yet?

4.25% on My World account savings pocket, money is immediately accesible, that's what you get on fixed deposit in the big banks. 2.75% on the main account.

And the account is free.

Tyme is fine but if it's strictly savings you are after, the everyday account does not have interest and while 6% is good, the money is not accessible mmediately.

I have both the Tyme and African bank acounts, they are the two best banks for savings right now.
