There are a few people out there who have probably sorted this out by now but I've been struggling for ages to get it fixed and was led to believe that the only way I was going to get my E220 modem to work properly was to uninstall AnyDVD.
NOT TRUE!
1) Installed VMCLite E220 3.2.1.156 standard
2) Installed the firmware update (not sure if it was necessary but better safe than sorry)
***** Very NB! Don't forget to remove your sim before updating the modem *****
Both of these can be found at . .
http://www.vodacom.co.za/services/mobile_data/downloads.jsp
3) Once that was done went Xp device manager and under USB serial bus controllers, disabled "USB Mass Storage Device" - This means that the E220 will no longer show up as a Mass Storage Device or a CD/DVD Device ( this being the reason for the conflict with AnyDVD)
4) With this disabled it means that you can't use VMC Lite anymore, however the E220 is still available as a USB modem so using the full version of the Vodafone Mobile Connect software does work.
There are no system reboots and crashes like before, AnyDVD is working fine and obviously the modem is working fine as well, otherwise I wouldn't be posting this.
I hope this helps anyone in need. It took me a while to figure this out and thanks to the guys and Vodacom and AnyDVD for their help and suggestions.
Just dunno why nobody else posted this somewhere, would saved a load of time and a few dents in my computer
