Cool man will remove the photo. I thought I looked good. :/
These recroutmemtpeople always ask for pics though.

yes they all do, but its a subtle way to see if you fit in the "box" (race, age, sex ect).

me, I only give them that at the last possible second, try not giving it at all even what does it have to do with how well I will do the job?

I'm not a fashion model here!
and I aint interviewing for a SABC news anchor.

irrelevant twaddle

In other news. I might have an interview lined up for Friday.

awesome stuff dude, and remember its a question of numbers,
go to 100 interviews get 1 offer, just the statistics of it.

(unless your related to an ANC member :))

Awesome, good luck. Try and stay cool like you don't care even though you need this. The right position will happen.

good luck bud

tough place out there

yeah there are tons of sites with the same job posted across multiple sites

some dont even get back to you

I been looking for a change as well cause our client is dropping out slowly and i know the industry to know when the signs are there

linkedin is the easiest at the moment for jobs but some of the jobs posted there are over a year old and keep popping up like its new

It’s depends on your qualifications and your current salary. I would probably do the same if I was in the same situation. The problem is if I take a reduction in salary when you apply for a new job you don’t have a good starting salary.

Was retrenched in Jan 2018. It sucks, and believe me, it's a tough journey where you start interrogating yourself and the decisions you've made that landed you in this position.

Focus on what's important.
1. Cut any unnecessary expenses immediately
2. Apply for jobs, anything in or mildly related to your field
3. Reach out to connections, family, friends, colleagues

I was on 220 applications per day for 4 weeks and I eventually landed a position that has better benefits, better salary and better career growth (already been promoted).

YOU WILL FIND A JOB.

All the best!

Hi everyone,

Thought I would send an update here and just also thank each and everyone for there help and words of wisdom. Thank you so much. You honestly helped me a lot.

So since I came to this site I have gone for 3 interviews all senior positions and one head of marketing position. I also have another client on my books and have actually managed to make slightly more than I did in September, than before my retrenchment.

One of the positions I am being interviewed for had over +145 applications from their LinkedIn portal. of which 10 was selected to be interviewed and I have made the top 5. This is for one of the largest agencies in the world. So that is really amazing.

My own company is really actually doing well too and the clients are very happy with what they are getting and paying for. The one client who gets about 3 conversions a month went up to 6 conversions in the last 10 days of September. This will only increase this month.

On one hand, I want to just push through with my own company. But on the other hand, I want that financial security (Obviously financial security means nothing as I was retrenched). Perhaps I can keep my current clients + have a fulltime salary while I build up a client base.

Anyway. Thought I would update you all. So THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! To everyone in this community and to everyone who reached out in DMs and on LinkedIn. There have been some days where I felt completely lost and despondent. And reading posts here really helped me.

I'll send an update with what the outcome is. :)

If I was you I would keep working at building my own business, your efforts and entrepreneur skills get paid back to you many times over. You answer to your self and your growth in your personnel and professional life is drastic. After I left my last job following giving them 21 years of my time, I am in business on my own now for 10 years and will never look back again. You want security make it for yourself, working for a boss is just waiting for the next financial crisis or management blunder to get you retrenched or laid off again. Added benefit I employ over 20 people now and believe I am contributing to grow the economy of the country and the lively hood of my staff.

Hi All,

Thought I'd come back to this thread. Still no good news with pertinent employment. :/

I was interviewed by 4 companies in the last 4 weeks and no success. I went to the top 5 of a very large marketing agency but no offers. I have had 2 clients, freelancing. But struggling to get more.

Still at square one.

Hey guys,

So reviving this thread. Been retrenched for 5 months now. I am freelancing but only have 2 clients who might leave soon... If anyone knows any recruitment agencies in Randburg or can help me gain some clients please do let me know... What is the likeliness of finding employment this year?

Unfortunately this year is going to be a terrible year for a lot of job seekers and freelancers. I'm just grateful I haven't been affected and hope we can get some sort of relief soon from the pandemic soon...the ANC isn't helping either when it comes to jobs.

I worked in a team of 7 developers. We now have 2 after the pandemic. The work load is beyond me. We are trying. We can not complain.
