Hi all
Have anyone extended their MBA or MBP Retina storage with a SD card?
I have a 2015 MBP with 256 GB storage and I'm looking in to this. The most popular product seams to be the Transcend Jetdrive Light 360, it's quite expensive, almost the price of a SSD drive, but from reviews I've seen it looks like a good product.
Any experience with it or a similar product? I'll probably put my music library on it and also my Windows VM if the read and write speeds allow.

I have a normal SD card in there which I use for various things. Not sure why you'd need a specific product, if low speeds are find for you. Just pop one in and go.

I need one for my Mrs... the Transcend looks good in that it doesn't jut out like a normal SD card would.
Any idea where to get the best price on one of these?

Speed is important, I want to put VM's on it.

I also like it for not sticking out, basically pop in there and forget about it. I only really started to look around again last night, so didn't get to pricing comparisons yet. At a stage Takealot and Loot stocked them, but otherwise Amazon, I already checked, the ones selling on Amazon does ship to SA.
Remember to get the correct one for her machine, the Air, 13" Pro and 15" Pro have slightly different shapes.

I did read on Takealot that when the machine hibernates, you need to take out the card and re-insert it - I guess she could live with this.

128Gb MB Air: When I compare pricing on Amazon ($97 plus R195 for shipping with aramexglobalshopper) it seems easier to to pay Takealot R1745

Loot don't have stock

I run VMs on mine.. works fine and recently even reformatted it to APFS encrypted. Works ok

One issue as mentioned above is that when the MacBook goes into power saving (on battery) it disconnects from essentially USB disk connection which screws up your vm if running. Here there are options.. either, diligently keep MacBook from doing so &/or pause vms when on battery and u stepping away or not using it.. or use something like caffeine to prevent it from going into power saving.

When plugged into power this doesn’t happen.

I use the MacBook 15” in the 13”. Sticks out but works.
