Anyone having issues with iMessage?

I ported from MTN to Telkom a few years back, and I remember I had the same problem but it only lasted 2 or 3 days. How long has it been since you've ported?
It’s been almost a week now. The new sim is active and the port request was successful, I’m able to make and receive calls, send and receive sms, and access internet related services using mobile data. I’m a pre-paid customer, and I’ve contacted MTN to confirm if there are any restrictions (like sending/receiving international sms) that may be prohibiting me from activating iMessage and Facetime, and they confirmed there are none. I’ve attempted quite a few troubleshooting steps suggested in online forums and Youtube videos which haven’t worked, visited an MTN store for assistance and the consultant straight up told me that they’ve had quite a few people come in with the same/similar issue before but have no idea how to fix it, so I have no idea how to resolve this issue other than trying to port my number back.

Hi all. I have exactly same issue. I had my iPhone battery replaced at the Istore. My iMessage was working perfectly before.
I had to sign out of my iCloud account and reset my phone before the battery replacement. Once the replacement was done I reinstalled my backup. Everything was working besides iMessage and FaceTime. I get the error that activation was unsuccessful and should try again later. Normal information messages appear before saying that my carrier will charge for sms required for activation.
After a while I get waiting for activation and thereafter message saying that unable to activate. I have spent hours with the Apple support where they went through full troubleshooting with a junior and senior consultant. They finally suggested I try placing the sim in another iPhone or iPad. I tried this and activation was still unsuccessful. This led them to say that they issue with the Carrier and likely to do with sending an international sms for activation. After many hours with MTN call centre and Twitter account, I’m still stuck. They’ve reset things in the background, gave multiple USSD strings and still nothing. I’m convinced the issue lies with sending of an sms to an international number. I have tried sending and sms to a friend I in the UK and it doesn’t go through. I have found that I am being charged for international smses and this includes the ones sent for iMessage activation. I am on MTN prepaid. I have also done a sim swap which was of no help. Not sure what else there is to do.

So, today I visited another MTN store and spent some time with a data specialist who confirmed the activation request is being sent to a number starting with the international dialling code +44 (which happens to be UK) and escalated the issue to the next tier of support to investigate. When I got home, I managed to send a test sms to an Indian number (+91 dialling code) and the sms was delivered/received by the recipient (though only an hour and 25min later), the person couldn’t reply because his mobile carrier or plan doesn’t support outgoing international sms, then I tried a relative in UK (+44 dialling code) and he never received my sms, nor did I receive his, so I’m almost certain MTN are baring sms’ to and from UK for some reason. Will post an update once I receive feedback from MTN

Hi @Some1Curious
Last night I thought I’d try moving back to android just for the sake of change. So I put my SIM card in my old android phone and was busy setting up all my apps and after a while thought this was too much of a headache. While setting up I got the following message from MTN: “We are going to configure your handset. Pincode:1234”.
Nothing further after that. I set up my WhatsApp and thereafter decided I’ll just got back to iPhone and so I moved the sim back into my iPhone.
This morning out of curiousity I went I into iMessage and FaceTime settings and would you believe the blue tick appeared next to my phone number! iMessage and FaceTime were activated successfully!
Not sure why this would have happened but maybe you can give it a try.

I literally have the same issue after porting my number from Telkom to MTN recently, I’m able to send and receive sms, but keep being charged for attempted activation sms’ for iMessage and Facetime, several times a day. Was anyone able to find a resolution for this issue yet?

Struggling to activate iMessage and FaceTime with MTN

I commented on above post. In short - Just wait it out.

Anybody got iMessage successfully activated with an MTN eSim? I’ve tried everything to activate iMessage and FaceTime and last resort is to delete eSim and re add but it’s quite a task.

Yes mine eventually worked. Just leave it disabled for week or two and then try again. Nothing else worked and im sure I tried everything.
