Anyone here running a stable high end hackintosh?

i installed snow leopard on virtualbox today.
I must say, it's running pretty smoothly.
networking up and running, usb supported.
still trying to figure out how to configure kexts for higher graphics resolutions though...

To fix the resolution issue, open Finder and go to the OS X drive on the left. Open the folder called Extras. Right Click on the file com.Apple.Boot.plist and open it with TextEdit. Under the first insert this:

Graphics Mode
1280x1024x32

or another compatible resolution. Select "Save As" at the top and save it to the desktop, unchecking the check under Unicode and then save it as com.apple.boot.plist. After that drag and drop it into the extras folder and overwrite the original file, entering your password when prompted.

If I read this correctly, this only changes resolution, which isn't the big issue. What about a graphics driver and at least 2D acceleration? My problem with the current setup is the display runs like molasses.

I don't think you are going to get that to work. That is usually what the Guest Additions are for, don't think OS X has guest additions as they only support OS X guest on OS X hosts to comply with the apple license agrrement.

The easiest way to change it is to copy the plist file to the desktop, double click on it and it will be opened with the Property List Editor then you can just add it manually, save it and copy the file back.

I am running an OSX host. Are you saying there is guess additions for OSX under OSX?

Well, running it under Linux is the ultimate goal, so I won't have to take my MBP to work. But my work machine doesn't have VT extensions, so I need to beg IT for a better CPU first. In the mean time it doesn't hurt to prepare my VM...
 
Hey guys.

I'm running my Windows installation off of a RAID0 (two of my drives are in Software RAID through BIOS - think i used intel RAID bios utility)

I see you have to set BIOS in AHCI to get the Mac OS X installed.. When I did that and tried to boot into Windows normally, Windows obviously didn't boot..

Any ideas? Do i have to reinstall Windows on one partition... :(

Nope. How about installing OS X on a old spare drive? This way you can test things out without screwing with your existing setup(s).
