Yo

Anyone here playing DayZ standalone?

Is there any local servers?

Thanks

Hey man, alot are playing it :) and around 7 South African servers, normally see about +- 200 players over all the South African servers each day.

Streaming on Twitch. A bit lacking but interesting nonetheless. I know it's still early days.

I was/am very tempted to buy it, but people say that the game is in a shocking state even for a pre-alpha. After my experience with Arma 3 when I bought it while it was still in alpha, I was very much disgusted to see the game I was waiting so long for in such a horrible state. I think at this time it's better to wait for the beta, so you can have an almost full experience.

I'll get it when it's closer to completion. I have more than enough games to play until then.

IMO it is a fsck up, as an arma mod it was more stable, I know it is still pre-alpha but then at least drop the price to those willing to endure the bs while helping you develop finished

Seems the game is better if you did not play the mod :P i am new to DayZ and love it even in Pre-Alpha and looking forward to what are still to come.

Mine continually crashes when you are just running between towns, also using items is a ballache and often it wastes items getting "frozen" in the use action", then I restart after a crash and I spawn getting chowed

30 Dollars is the lowest it will go, outside of Steam sales. It uses the same pricing scheme as ArmA 3, from alpha to final the price doubled.

Dropping the price even more just means you got more new players buying it because of hype and low price. A lot of people who don't understand Alpha stage who go on and complain about how buggy it is. Just look at the steam forums. I'm convinced over 50% of people who bought it stopped playing it day one because they didn't read/took the store page information seriously. Game sold over 500k copies last time I checked (bout a week ago) and is still the no.1 top seller on Steam, yet the game only peaks at 40k players a day.

I bought it but am waiting for it to become better. Will try it every now and again.

What other pre-alphas can we compare this to?

I would venture that those people don't even begin to understand the concept of: Concept -> Alpha -> Beta -> Stable -> Release. I've played around with a few concepts and in that state before Alpha its pretty raw. Of course this would be much easier to relate to when you have done actual programming...

I don't know where people are getting the idea that this is a pre-alpha. It is very clearly stated that the game is in alpha.

Arma games are permanently in Alpha state

That is really strange, and you do run the latest GFX drivers etc? Never had any issues with crashes just low FPS in towns.

Compare DayZ with Rust, both are in Alpha and Rust is about 5x better in terms of playability.

Why they had to use that clunky engine is beyond me.

well i have about 16 hours played at the moment, i must say im really enjoying it, there is a lot you still cant do but i guess everything will come with time.

Just kinda sucks that none of my buddies wants to buy it yet :-(

TBH, I'm shelving it until they implement proper zombie spawns and loot respawning. At this point it's nothing more than Wasteland with hunger and thirst. No point really playing it over the mod.
