Anyone playing DayZ Standalone?

Never played the mod. I am enjoying it so far though. I don't understand all the moaning about the content and what not, it's an alpha - you knew that befor you purchased the game. There's a ton of youtube vids out about the game. Alpha is an early phase...

But as mentioned in this thread maybe not having playe the mod makes the SA bearable.

The "moaning about content" is because after more than a year of development, the SA is not even on par with the mod, which was also in alpha. Things such as loot respawn and zombie spawning is the most basic, core features of the mod, and it isn't even implemented yet.

This doesn't feel like alpha, it feels like pre-alpha.

And they already had an engine to work with and not having to code their own.

To answer OP's question - last time I looked, there were 7 servers, with one dedicated daytime server (which is most evenings full), and all of them have players on them. You should be able to view the player traffic on gametracker.

I contemplated about 2 weeks whether I should "invest" the $30 and my time into an alpha/pre-alpha and eventually bit the bullet last week. I've put around 8 hours of game time in and still find it enjoyable with still lots of places to explore. I'll be honest and say that it is a bit frustrating, at times, with the few bugs that I've encountered, i.e. glitches and random slow performance. Once they start releasing new features, especially base building it'll become even more enjoyable.

Zewp, out of principle, I agree with you on the development timeline (or lack thereof), but after going live on steam, I suspect (read: hope) that the pace on development and releases will increase. They've got sufficient funding to get things done now and a player base that'll nag them for new features and content.

So, OP when/if you buy it, you need to fully understand that the game is incomplete and has bugs, but you'll get early access to a playable game (and possibly at a cheaper price).

I dunno how to do that

I loled so hard

Whenever I encounter someone the text that doesn't seem to work. Either I'm not getting their messages or vice versa.

Heh. Been on both ends of that - being mugged and mugging someone. Although the latter deserved it, 'cause he sneaked up on me and tried axing me. I let him go though... but only in his tighty-whiteys.

I like his stance, and I'm committed to play that way. Rather rob someone, leave them be, and move on. Rather that, than randomly just murdering people, especially from a distance and especially if it's a new player/fresh spawns.

In the 10 hours that I've played, I've been murdered three times already; twice from a distance and once post robbery.

Also, just to add on to anybody that is considering buying this game, the devs can't be more clear than this:

We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle. Please keep in mind that we do not expect to reach Beta status sooner than the end of 2014.

Also looking forward to what they plan on developing next:

Server performance, stability and security
Animals & hunting (could potentially increase the game play/psychological mechanics of players with the hermit/lone survivor mentality)
Cooking & gathering resources
Playable user customizable vehicles
Player created constructions in the environment
More complex interactions with the environment and crafting options
Streamlined user actions and interface
Control and animations expanded and improved for fluidity
Upgraded graphics and physics engine (including ragdoll, etc.) (hopefully improving the engine)
Support of user mods and more flexibility for user hosted servers and game types

A pity you won't ever see anything like that on the SA servers. With our community you'll just get shot.

First time playing Stand Alone I spawned outside a building and walked inside just getting used to the controls. I hear something behind me and in walks a guy who just unloads his assault rifle into my face, then tea bags my corpse.

Fun times on SA servers.

I think the shooting will slow down a bit once the community matures after a while. I was watching a Youtube vid where the guy was talking about one of the highest growth points in the game is when you are able to hold people up and loot what you want of them and let carry on (obvisously depends on the situation). Perhaps this will happen? I dunno. I don't see the point of killing some dude who has just spawned... But time will tell.

Yo.

Got 44 hours played now, haven’t logged in for about 2 days, I’m to damm scared some dude shoots me and i lose my pretty guns and my stash of food.

Must say with the little content out right now I’m still enjoying the game.

Almost had a heart attack Friday when i logged on at night to check out an airfield and some guy was sitting right next to me in a tree, emptied my 15 round pistol on him, must say i felt bad afterwards for not trying to talk to him first but like i said i had one moerse fright.

If I own all the arma games for DayZ can i get the standalone for free?

Anyone keen to team up? It gets kinda boring just running around starving... For some reason I don't run into people very often

See it as a good thing. Last night I got killed just for my shirt. I even surrendered but no it was more fun for them to put a bullet in my head.

Makes it hard to trust people in the game and I like talking to the ones I meet. But it seems that everyone wants to just kill each other.
