Anyone playing DayZ Standalone?

Current rule of thumb is to never venture close to any of the airfields, unless you're in a group of 4 (or more) peeps and apply some form of tactical manoeuvering/engagement...otherwise it'll end up in a bloodbath. And stay away from the top of buildings. It makes you an easy target for bandits and guys that are skittish about snipers.

ddrd, the thing that i've found with the mosin is that you've gotta have a good system to push up that field of view and maintain solid fps. Obviously you'll need a stable connection and good latency as well, to make a scoped mosin really effective. Actually havn't had much luck in getting a decent M4 setup going and the last time I did, I had it all of 30 minutes before being murdered.

When I'm with a group of friends and we're travelling to a base/airfield, I set up my scoped mosin with the bipod and provide cover while the team scouts ahead. We generally don't shoot first ask questions later, but it seems that everybody else is only looking out for themselves.

Havn't played this week, but heard there was quite a bloodbath at one of the airfields (think Northeast) - something like 10 out of 13 players died in a head to head encounter.

As for maps, try this: http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus
I've had the most success navitagting around with this map and it provides solid leads on equipment and supplies.

Why are people moaning about the price, you do realise that you have the game when its fully released ? Why would they sell it at a discount? You are agreeing to test the game by buying Alpha.

Come now people, think a little bit.

There's speculation that the price will increase the closer it gets to release. Considering SPECULATION, it could be seen as an investment at this point.

Yea exactly, this game sold 1 million in ALPHA! it's gonna rise when its a proper tested version, lets not forget the rand weakening against the dollar lately.

Anc is inspiring huge confidence in our economy /sarcasm off

Im still in on the fence about this latest trend on selling pre aplha games. If I buy it now, play a 100 hours Ill be bored and over it by the time the full game gets released and never experience the actual full game.

Last night I accidentally killed someone when my team and I where ambushed :(

It's a trend for Indie developers to raise money and speed up development. I support it, if you think about the slow progress it took DayZ SA to get to this state in a whole year, they now have over 30 million dollars at their disposal and can greatly increase production speed.

Last night I accidentally killed someone when my team and I where ambushed :(

2 nights ago my mate accidentally axed me with a hatchet, it took us over 3 hours to get a saline bag to help replenish blood loss, alcohol tincture to clean my wounds and lots of food and water to get healthy again!

I bought it because I knew it's something that I'd play and invest hours into it, once it's released. The mistake that I made in the beginning though, was that I wanted to treat the Alpha like a finished product.

In the first week I was all about getting to understand/know the game.
Second week I was gearing up and being all hardcore survivor - hero whoring/bandit slaying/highway robber/militant tactics/lone wolf.
Around week 3, I was only starting to treat it like an alpha. Testing random things like medical treatment (purposely poisoning myself, breaking legs, getting shot), how to successfully climb ladders, swimming to the island, which gun works best in what scenarios, etc. and I've learnt alot about the mechanics; more than those that are too scared to even figure out how to use a saline bag or blood transfusion.

I do join up with other people, as it is an aspect of the game, and often give bambis gear, team up and show them the ropes, but I'm not too phased of them turning on me. Afterall, once I respawn, I get to figure out where I am and what the best techniques are for surviving those first 30 minutes. Your navigation and scavenger skills increase tremendously.

I met another player that's logged over 30 hours of game time and was only killed once. He's so fearfull of doing anything adventurous at this stage, due to his precious gear (admittedly, he was pretty well kitted) and he didn't have any clue how he would go about surviving if he had to respawn.

All in all, I can't seriously "play" the game at this stage. With all the patches and content that will be released in the next few months, I'd rather get a solid firstand understanding of how they work, than kitting up and worry about every little consequence. There's bound to be some or other bug that's gonna kill you, or as of late, some random teleporting/wallshooting/godmode hacker or combat loggers that will take some of the joy away and replace it with frustration. What happens when they decide to do a database cleanup? All those long hours of gathering pristine gear, nursing your health from bad to healthy....whoosh....all for naught.

It's in Alpha right now, so treat it as such. Otherwise you might be better off playing the Mod.

New patch last night, no progression saving on local servers.Internationals do save but it seems to be server specific, IE no server hopping for loot, which is cool.

Can anyone confirm this issue ?

my gripe is that i cannot play for more than 5 minutes without the game crashing....

Ok, bought it last night and download was finished this morning. Think I had serious case of FOMO reading all the stories and reviews. Will give it a go tonight

Have you updated your drivers, changed video settings etc? This shouldn't be happening. I don't think my client has crashed once with 20+ hours of play...

I was in the same boat, but after reading from all over that the game is worth the price, bugs and all, in it's current state, I decided to get it. With the huge player base currently, I think it's good time to get to grips with it. Not keen on waiting till the end of next year to see what all the fuss is about, I don't think so many people will still be playing almost two years from now.

drivers up to date, i tried changing video settings.

and it will always happen like this, i am running somwhere, dont see zombies at all, game crashes, i login to the sound of being eaten. by the time sh#t renders etc i am near death.

That crashing thing is weird. I know a mate of mine, his client crashes every once in a while but nothing remotely close to what you're describing. What specs have you got? Perhaps there is some hardware that the game is not compatible with yet?
