Anyone still experiencing slowdown?

Well, I'm going on 5 days now with an average download speed of < 3kbps.

This is from anywhere on the net, local or international.

Talking to customer support borders on surreal, and they seem to be taking the ostrich problem solving approach.

ProAsm, is there anything you can do to help? This is bordering on unbelievable. Nobody seems to know what's going on.

No one is resting this weekend that I can assure you.

Aha - I bet there all resting now - it's 6.25am and I've just awoke to find - TADA ! - my connection is still as sucky as a sucky thing that really sucks badly !

sigh ... [:(!]

yup- Download Rocks seems to be working for the government at the moment... I just hit an all week high of 3.27K/s from kernel.org

How the speeds doing now guys?

Fantasy is what people want, reality is what they need.

In a word ?

K@K !

I've tried everything from a connection POV - I can access two towers, 82 and 66 and they are both K@K !

I am starting to get irritated now - I'm usually patient with this type of thing because I know it happens with any connection, but it's been 3 or 4 days now and prior to that, I was having DNS issues.

Sure, you could blame it on the Sasser worm up to a point, but I should think that's cleared up by now. My work ADSL line is running perfectly.

The most frustrating thing is not really knowing whats going on - just rumours of what may be happening. Certainly some problems may be too technical to explain to the customer.

Hmm, Sentech, how about an email to your customers apologising for the recent terrible bandwidth conditions and explaining that you'll be back up and running full speed soon ?

Somehow, I very much dought that's crossed anybodys minds over there - "shhh, maybe they won't notice ...."

Well would ya believe it !

After that post, connection dropped, so I reset the modem and moved it to it's postion for tower 82 - about 3 feet from where I get tower 66 :)

I'm actually getting average of 6k per second from ftp.mozilla.org and surfing has improved.

So, it looks like the Sentech techies have been burning the midnight oil .

Here's holding thumbs that the improvement stays and we get our full bandwidth back ! [:D]

Woohoo - gradually getting faster !

I can live with a 6k download on my 128 connection every now and then - better than 3k per second anyway

Sentech - have their speed test doena wobbly ?

Your speed is: 1.06 MB/s
The test took 0.941 seconds to complete

signal - 8%, BER 28, 97 to 100 db
tower - 36 nb2 ?

Still have slow browsing. Like swimming through cement! Don't know whats up cause i have good signal and bittorrent downloads at about 10-12KB (128 KB package, 10% signal - Kilner park 50, Pta)

Hope its something their fixing cause browsings been slow for a few days now. Not 56 KB slow! Awesome-tell-your-friends-and-take-a-picture slow!!! [:(!][:(!][V][V]

Hope their fixing! I'm just making sure they know that were also having problems!

Looks like your cache is getting quicker and quicker

Well, for what it's worth, if anyone connects to Randburg Metro (82), things have improved dramatically.

I'm at about 7k per second after a few disconnects - been steady for about 1 hour now.

Ag NO Realy, The bandwith suck on this "Mywireless BROADBAND Connection" that I thought I subscribed to!!! Sentech better fix this soon, 4'th day that I get average 3KB/s I'm used to 14KB/s.. If this carries on they are just too expensive for what they give in return..

I think govenrment/ICASA should define the term "Best Effort".

It's nonsense that someone can state this, giving them free reign to do whatever they like, especially since we have a regulated telecoms sector, where there is no choice.

(am on 128 package) according to techie I spoke to, around 4k-ish is the absolute minimum I should be able to be downloading at. This assuming the so-called 'contention ratio' is being applied. When I asked why I should pay 650 bux a month for something thats slower than my modem and 60 bux a month to an arb ISP, I was greeted with silence..

They still have not fixed our 2518 sector after two tickets and an "escalation". I tried it this morning and it sucked so I had to do some frequency hunting.

Doesnt look like they are working on the problem to me.

Last night I tried the registration site with my CD (also to try change password and see account info).. thats was down.

Right, now there are no more TV ads, registration is down, bandwidth sucks, there are rumours of contention ratios.. whats up? Sounds like something has gone bottom up. Are the currently accepting new registrations (if any)?

BTW no matter what contention ratio is applied, you speeds should not go under 50% consistently unless its a ridiculous ratio or is applied unfairly. I find that speeds jump around during the day but settle at night (23:00) - thats the CR at work. Blaming the current speeds on a sudden CR applied is rubbish. It has been medium in the day and fast at night for weeks now.

Somewhere somebody is not saying something.. perhaps Sentech underbudgeted the IS bill and havent paid or something?
Who knows.. even ProAsm is keeping very quiet. Hopefully it really isnt dire straits.
