Anyone still interested in LAN parties?

Anyone interested in the Lanning thing?

I have a friend that host's LANs in Cape Town, I just want to find out any suggestions for games to be played LAN that would be good for comps etc, like what people would enjoy playing to win things?

Pretty much no. Why would I move my PC to go sit in a noisy location to play a bunch of games I can play while in the comfort of my own home...
 
Hahaha so general consensus is no :D I mainly play online yea but for me it's all about who you are playing with like I enjoy playing with my mates and we don't always get to jam for long sessions due to working shifts and responsibilities and **** so it's kind of nice to once in a while go and get a solid 40 +- hours away but each to his own, I definitely get where you are coming from with the moving pc, my 27" is a bitch with the tower but it's better than CRT days :D
 
I went to one over the weekend, played age of empires, had a blast actually. Good times. But online is better
 
I still LAN with my wife and brothers.

We generally stick to older games as they have much better LAN support and they can run on most modern laptops, which solves the transportation issue. It is actually a golden age IMO as we can play all the games that used to wreck everyone's PCs on pretty normal laptops.

We usually play the following
Sins of a Solar Empire.
Killing Floor.
Unreal 2004.
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance.
Command and Conquer Generals

We usually make quite social event out of it by baking cupcakes and making pizza.

Well there are certain tools that allow you to LAN Steam games offline without the need for Steam or the internet. Games don't necessarily need to have a LAN function any more ;)

Killing Floor 2 is much better to LAN. Now and then I and my kid continue our Borderlands 2 journey. SINS, try the Star Trek: Armada 3 mod ;)
 
I loved to LAN in High School. We would use consoles instead of PCs because only two people in the group had adequate rigs. Playing online with your friends isn't the same as all of you being together in one room, imo, though it's still good.

Have a braaitjie and a few drinks and you're sorted.
 
Would I still Lan, sure. However I don't want to lug my pc around. Too old too bother. Konfabs evenings and game selection sound good though.
 
I would if I was younger, and also only with friends. Maybe to meet online "friends" in person.

Anyway, games I enjoyed in the past were diablo 1 & 2, quake, counterstrike, StarCraft and Warcraft, so similar games. So pretty much the games I would play online.
 
Such a pain to arrange a lan that fits everyone's schedule. I did do 3 lans in the last year. Online is better because you got your casuals and you got your extremist friends, COD and CS aren't fun when you play against friends who grind it 6+ hours a day while you're just a casual. So when we lan we stick to games nobody knows or party games like Super smash bros, prop hunt and the like, but even that becomes boring as your casuals will still struggle to keep up.
 
We LAN with internet too so that includes all online games too, not restricted to ethernet, but yea thanks for the input guys and possibly but unlikely girls :D will check out a few of the suggestions to jam at the next one.. and the copying of stuff factor mentioned before, with uncapped fibre I feel lost with what to download so when it's presented on a platter this does help at times lol, what I mean is I'm more likely to copy something that I wouldn't make the effort to source and download :/
