Hi

Can someone tell me if the following will be possible?

I have a AP, hooked up to Freeradius running on a Zeroshell box. Clients authenticate with username and password. They then get assigned a IP via DHCP.

Is it possible to assign the IP's from a specific IP pool based on who the user is, also possibly with a given VLAN.
Will Radius be able to track the traffic volume for that user?

VLANs won't be assigned dynamically, at least I haven't seen this on any network equipment I have worked.

So what you will do is, have the users on a specific vlan, however if you use a PPPoE session over this vlan, you can assign the user any ip you like via Radius, as that will create a tunnel like interface on top of the VLAN.

Now lets say you want to use DHCP instead, you will create a bunch of vlans, put the users on them as you add users, and create dhcp pools for each vlan. Then the user will be assigned an ip out of the pool that was assigned to the VLAN the user is on.

Depending on the AP, the AP should be either able to track user usage or not. Some cheapest ones don't, some do, most more expensive ones should.
