Apache releases OpenOffice 3.4

Why duplicate the effort? All the devs should just decide whether to go for libre or open & call it a day. Seems most have picked libre.

Yeah Oracle killed it for me, so now on LibreOffice.

Dont care if its now former or whatnot, but I guess like most of the community, we have moved on to better things ;)

In short, because of the licensing issues. When Oracle took over they messed up Open Office badly and by the time Apache took over the damage was done, most devs went over to Libre Office.

Its unfortunate that they split in two, really. Unfortunately to create something that can really stand up to Office 2010 and the up coming MS Office release there needs to be a joined effort to develop a Linux Office Platform.

What would be really nice if some of the really big roll players can come together on the project, i.e. the Apache guys develop the Document app, the LibreOffice guys doing the spreadsheet systems etc. etc.

Each team working on the project can develop their own SKIN to layer on the system and release in their own fashion.
