This looks good. Just starting to read up on UPS now. Ideally I want something that allows PC and server to shut down when power fails...but also to keep wifi router running for 2-3 hours. Possible with one of these BackUPS APC devices?
Use an APC smart ups, this will do exactly what you want.
If router is supplied with 5V DC you don't need UPS. Simple 12V->5V converter like car cellphone charger with 2A maximum load will do it - more energy efficient and you can use old car battery which doesn't crank alternator anymore. This looks good. If you have load shedding, would the local DSLAM also fall down i.e. is there any point in powering a ADSL modem/wifi router?
