Aperture 2

I'm stunned that no one responded to this yet. Has no one tried it yet?

I installed the trail. Looks pretty but that's about as far as my assessment will go - the last RAW update still don't include the K100D Super. The weird thing is when I use the import tool and point it to a directory full of PEF files, it displays the thumbnails correctly. I tried all the raw.plist hacks - no go. I guess I'll have to wait for my Canon to arrive - looking at the UPS site, that should be today :D

As a matter of fact I'm quickly backing up and then installing the trial. I'm always extremely cautious when I upgrade one of my primary apps.

£102 if you can buy it from the US store using a UK card :)

Installed and looking pretty good atm.

I guess I'll play around with the trial first and see if I actually like it more than Lightroom, which I've gotten to know a bit from playing around with the Pentax.

The 40D arrived today, by the way. DigitalRev did a nice job on the packaging, and the included "gift pack" is quite nice - camera bag, card holder, cleaning kit, cloth, LCD protector film, and a total of three different camera straps (aside from one from Canon) plus I got the extra battery and 2GB flash card as part of the deal. Nice sturdy bag too. Not a bad deal at all! Now I just need to get myself a lens, but I'm going to leave that until payday - self torture, I know!

Speaking of podcasts (on the other thread) I was just listening to the newest "Inside Aperture" podcast - discussion about Aperture 2 with Joe Schorr. He mentioned that DNG support had been changed so that if you convert a RAW file from an unsupported camera to DNG, Aperture will now read the DNG.

Tried it quickly, and wow - Aperture will now work with the photos from the K100D Super!

I'm not sure if anything is lost in the translation from RAW to DNG. Also need to find a better way to do the conversion, right now I have only Lightroom for that - Photoshop CS3 doesn't seem to give me the option.

can anyone comment on the minimum requirements for aperture, what machine do you have & how does it work?

i have a problem with even high end machines, multi-tasking problems i would call it!

Can anyone comment on this... aperture & multitasking?

You'll find the minimum system requirements here - http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/

You can download a compatibility checker on the same page as the trial - http://www.apple.com/aperture/trial/

I keep aperture (and photoshop cs3) running most of the time and while it likes to utilise the CPU when its generating previews or exporting, apart from that it seems pretty sedate.

if i only had some international bandwidth bwana, i would check it out but gotta leave that for the beginning of march, i will add that to my list of international things i gotta check out :D

The actual download is local :)
