Apple and IBM join forces for "business iPad"

One has to love the stuff that marketing department write. Lots of words saying "it" is going to be fantastic without saying what "it" is.

Browsing through the IBM website it seems that they want to offer their platform as a service capabilities for the iPad. They have released a development kit in the hope that developers will write the apps to make this happen. The one iOS app they they are offering (unless I missed something) is for mobile customer engagement to push spam to devices.

Blow Jobs might be gone, but his world-class levels of BS still remain.

OMG, the BEST, most INNOVATIVE iPad yet. This is so much more awesomer than anything the competition has ever done or has ever existed. RADICAL! Only Apple can deliver it!

Why? Because we say so. What is it? It's AWESUM, everybody knows. Duh, what kind of question is that?

An IBM branded iPad...I guess it suits them to get involved in proprietry hardware, they gave up on competing in the PC market a long time ago.

In fact they've been quite clear about what they intend to offer with the partnership:

this exclusive global partnership will deliver a new class of apps that connect users to big data and analytics right on their iOS devices with more ease and efficiency than ever before.

Apple gains IBM's data analytics and enterprise speciality without needing to create their own division. IBM gets to create enterprise-specific apps which it can use to sell customised iPads (or devices) into businesses. Apple's penetration into enterprise has been quite shallow until now, which Tim Cook already stated on the record. They'll use the partnership to sell IT solutions to specific corporations. Our company has an iPad app; a training company that a friend works for sells through thousands of locked-down iPads as training content delivery tools to their clients. It's not a marketing partnership, it's a business one, and quite logical.
