Apple CarPlay now supports Google Maps

Apple has added support for Google Maps to its CarPlay platform with iOS 12.

The latest update for Google Maps – version 5.0 – is now available to all iOS users through the App Store and adds the ability to sync Google Maps navigation to your vehicle’s built-in display.

It's about time, I never used apple car play because I hate apple maps. Eventually just switched to android which supports waze, makes android auto a great feature in your car.

Waze will also be supported in the near future. I think Apple demoed it in July
