Apple has deleted at least six threads talking about Consumer Reports' iPhone 4 tests. Customers on Apple's support boards were discussing the publication's negative report, which demonstrated that the design flaw could affect all users. [Updated]

The threads were cached by Bing before getting deleted by Apple. It is not the first time that Apple censors support threads—or applications and editorial content.

Previously, AppleCare confirmed that the incoming software patch won't fix the antenna problem, and you have to "hold it differently" or "use a case" if you are experiencing it.

Consumer Reports' recommendation against buying the iPhone 4 comes after their lab testing confirmed that the antenna design flaw could stop internet access as well as voice quality degradation and call drops depending on the existing reception level.

Ironically, Consumer Reports's scorecard shows that the iPhone 4 has the best score of all cellphones, two points ahead of the iPhone 3GS and the HTC Evo 4G.

Apple hasn't commented on Consumer Reports' test or the support threads censoring. If you want Apple to offer a free solution to the problem tested by Consumer Reports, you can sign the petition here.

Update: There are still some threads about the topic active at this time. You can see them here.

Apple isn't handling this particularly well.

They sound like Police Chief Wiggum from The Simpsons "Nothing to see here people, move along!"

Honesty is always the best policy.

Apple has decided to do it the Toyota way, something they will bitterly regret.

Hmmm, isn't that officer barbrady from south park? chief wiggum is the fat guy with the messed up kid

They've done it before, this is not the first time. Generally they delete threads which are not helpful and just full of complaints. Not saying it's a good thing, just that it has precedent.

That is pretty standard practice from Apple. Not sure why people are getting into a fuss now all of a sudden

I really have a hard time believing that this antenna thing is for real. How the hell does that not crop up in testing? If it is a real issue and it is as bad as people are making it out to be then truly it is a fiasco.

A company has the final say as to what appears on their websites. If you don't like it, vote with your feet, take off the blinkers and choose another product.

Now why would you start deleting threads from a DISCUSSION BOARD?? Isn't that what a discussion board is all about? To discuss things? Or maybe you're trying to hide something?

Oh, and this is Apple USA, not Apple China or North Korea.

I liked the "some say" comment Clarkson made about the Stig in Sunday's episode of Top Gear :
Some say that if you hold him in the wrong way, he doesn't work properly

Strange that you did not respond like this :

...this regurgitated information just seems more than a tad petty.

Oh well, guess Apple Standards apply in most forums :D

A defective Apple product is still better that those offered by their competitors ... "Ironically, Consumer Reports's scorecard shows that the iPhone 4 has the best score of all cellphones, two points ahead of the iPhone 3GS and the HTC Evo 4G." Just imagine how far ahead of the pack an Apple product without defects will be then. Personally, I feel these defects are overrated/overstated, and not any worse than with other products. I had a Nokia E90 before my current BlackBerry. Talk about defects and customers flatly ignored by the manufacturer ... talk about promising the world but delivering rock in the ocean ... put me off them for a long time to come.

People want the iPhone and will take it warts-n-all. Sales prove this. All the negative hoo-hah will not change this. Apple must be doing something very right.

That I will not deny in a million years - they are very good at "doing something very right".
I believe the term used is marketing and also the occasional cover up, as is the case here.

Why is it strange?

I'm commenting on the way Apple is, or is not, handling this problem. Apple publishes their press releases so it's easy to do (http://www.apple.com/pr/). What I am not doing is reviewing the phone based entirely on other people's experiences.

Apple's holding a press conference tomorrow about the iPhone 4. Nothing listed in the invite.

I doubt it, this is standard Apple operating procedure and they have been doing it for a long time. No matter what Apple does the fanboys will line up to buy whatever their next product is ;)

Gosh you're right it's definitely not that they're producing a good product. It's the fanboys.
