Apple denies tracking iPhone users

Saw an article about this plotting both actual route taken & the data points...its useless info because its all vague & fuzzy. Basically a list of cell towers you connected to.

do people really think a company as efficient and streamlined as Apple would deliberately do something like this? If they really wanted to surreptitiously track you, they would do so in a manner no casual hacking could uncover.

Who cares if they tracked people, the problem was the history kept on the device, also to an extend the ease of accessing that data. But its all good, fix inbound on both accounts.

What is concerning is that the problem was known to other sources before this latest news and never made public or even reported to Apple. Well I hope they didn't report it, otherwise why did it have to go public in such an explosion to get a fix if it was reported. There was even reports of people knowing about this since iOS 4 launch.

I suspect there will be more revelations around this issue, and some companies are going to be in trouble. Tracking is a reality but what companies do with the data is going to come out of the washing now. TomTom selling their data to police agencies for example.

That 200GB hidden folder of porn on my HD. It is due to a bug.

Apple covers up, except that they don't. And people can't see past the cover? Data is never insignificant if you may glean information out of it. Privacy has been compromised - if you don't believe this you are naive. The tracking data was encrypted and uploaded to Apple and they kept a significantly long set of data on the phone. That is by design, not software bug. Sounds to me the bug was that they did not encrypt it on the phone or PC. Or that they were doing something that they did not want to do, and therefore made it easy to get caught out?

The cynic (and world experience) in me believes that in no way it is a bug. If you believe it is so - then that girl you caught me kissing - she is my sister...

Of course they're going to deny it. To acknowledge it would be bad for profit and share price.

"This data is sent to Apple in an
anonymous and encrypted form,"
