Apple iCar dreams

Apple/Tesla. I can see that. More likely a trendy electric city car.
But am I the only one who think a Apple/Tesla Partnership is better than a Microsoft/Tesla or a Facebook/Tesla partnership?
The last one gives me chills.

Well, that is probably due to the companies being likened due to the way they do things. And Elon Musk and Steve Jobs are often compared for their way of doing business as well.
As for Facebook/Tesla...And advertising company being involved in my car...what a horrible though

Elon Musk also conducts business through a medium?

Your Car will be the Mk1 version 6 months later we will have the Mk2
in 5 years the Mk10 will be available. You will be able to drive 2,000 kl's
on a single charge, only drawback will be single driver only no passengers.
Sure won't mind as you drive a genuine Apple product.

Scary to think of the impact on road safety when people have to jailbreak their cars to pimp them and drive them where they want.

If anything its probably just an attempt to get tesla to integrate with the apple in car system.
I doubt apple wants to go putting their name on a car.

People that modify their cars...special breed

Having your car serviced at iStore is questionable… not to mention this new system called iPistorius, apparently it locks your iCar indefinitely.

Will Apple try to enforce their rounded corner patent on cars?

No, their patent is quite specific as to what it covers. Or did you think it covers all round corners?

Do you think it should? When they build their phone into a car I can see them claiming it is simply a motorized phone. With [-]seats[/-] multiple ergonomically restrained user docking stations. And one or more [-]steering wheels[/-] rounded tactile interface controls.

They will try market the iCar suggesting new innovation technology like aircon etc.. , and all the fan boys will go nuts: "Wow what a great innovation!"

And six models down it will come with cruise control and steering wheel buttons, yet again it would be such a great innovation....

Indeed I can't wait for Apple to really inventorize the "car"

Uhm, actually there is much controversy surrounding this patent due to the missing in-depth detailed descriptions.

As we've explained before, the scope of a design patent is defined by the drawings, and the solid lines are what counts —the dashed lines are just there for context. As you can see below, the 'D286 patent has a lot of gratuitous context but just a single solid line defining what is being protected.

Previous design patents on the iPad and iPhone have included at least one additional feature in solid lines — like the home button, the back surface contour, the bezel shape, the side profile, or the edge-to-edge screen. This one ignores all of that and simply focuses on the shape of that peripheral edge. It's a broad patent. Really broad. Granted, an argument can be made that the horizontal and vertical lengths of the solid edge line in the drawings limits the patent coverage to a specific proportional design that excludes tablets with different aspect ratios, but you wouldn't want that to be your primary defense.

Everything is based on a drawing?

Do note that I have seen and read all the patents related to Apple shapes.

Please do quote (or post an image :p ) us the parts which covers these shapes, the US patent database is quite open.

Like The Verge stated in the article:

Will Apple ever use this patent against its competitors? Maybe, but there's an inherent downside to asserting a patent like this: it's vulnerable to invalidity arguments.

It is in the patent. Why don't you open it and see. There are pretty pictures and everything

When I saw this thread, the first thing I looked for was Cerebus' "this is great" replies... :D :p

It's not a great idea, it's an obvious area for exploitation by any company selling media-consumption devices. Google's going there and Apple have been making moves in that direction for a long time.
