Apple iPad confirmed

Well, it is being billed as the next generation in computer technology, the way of the future. All the usual Apple marketing hype. Hence the underwhelming impression it leaves when you discover it's just a big iphone minus the phone. Sure, it is pretty and I'd take one if you gave it to me, but it really is not all that amazing.
If it was so easy to do, how come it hasn't been done till now?
JooJoo is close, but 4GB is nowhere enough space and no-one knows if it will ever actually ship.
Courier is vapourware
Nokia got nothing
HP - bah!
Anything else?

What's amazing is that it is so intuitive as a product that you immediately are able to dismiss it as ordinary - i.e. it fits the product space it defines extremely well

Looks very cool but no multitasking and no flash? Why i wonder?
I'm not going to miss flash... don't miss it on my iPhone now either.
Lack of multi-tasking is resource dependent. As the PA Semi processors get faster and handle more RAM, multitasking will be introduced. The ability to play background music while working in other apps is available.

All the obvious 'flaws' are there for a reason, people.

Like with almost every other product on the market they must leave space for the 'improved' version next year, or otherwise they will have nothing to sell.

Good work to Steve and all of them, but it is a bit of a niche product imo. It needs to let go of the strict rules just a tad to really influence the market as much as it aims to. But the pricing might pull it through also. Apple might be out to change computing as a whole.

Anyways, I still want one, even if it is just for kicks...

Nokia N700 & N800 internet pads, anyone?
Nokia did this two years ago, they just never commercialised it. They seemed to be dabbling in the market more than putting out a full, well supported product, but they've had internet pads out for a while now.

Are you serious? Those are barely larger than an iPhone. They resemble the first "brick" cellphones.
I'm sure that Nokia release products to just dabble in a non-comercial sense. Now that the market segment has been created, maybe they'll stop dabbling and actually compete.;)

I'm somewhat underwhelmed by the storage capacity and lack of multitasking. I'll be interested to see what Microsoft and the others come up with. The fact that it is priced near the Kindle DX does give it appeal.

it can only run Apple Store Apps? bleeeugh, useless.

A bit limited if you ask me. i'm disappointed in it....

now if they made one that looks the same but can run Windows 7 with multitouch, now that, that would be a winner.

Interesting hate list by Gizmondo

No Camera, multitasking or flash. I know we can argue these flaws till the iPad G2, but come on, I expected more from the Apple touted "Netbook Killer"

Nice price though, let's just wait and see what Core has to say about that :)

It's potential will only be realized when app developers build custom apps for it. At the moment its just running the old iphone apps, so the claims that its just a big ipod touch are essentially true. I suspect apples need to keep it secret created the "hardly and apps" situation we are currently in.

By year end i suspect itll have alot more going for it. It's clearly packed with buckets loads of potential.

Yet another one of it's biggest failings. The internet in your hand. Well, it's not if it can't do flash. Most sites have flash content in them these days.

Flash is a fail, adobe still can't fix it's 64bit versions on OSX nevermind arm compatibility, HTML5 will make flash obsolete anyway once the video standards are sorted.

140 000 apps not enough for you? With an SDK already available imagine the possibilities? Windows 7? You must be joking dude!

Are they developing a vector animation standard for HTML5 too?

no, it's not.

If it had a proper OS it would be great - but it doesn't.

- I wanna copy my own PDF's to the iPad, not buy each book from the damn ibook store.
- I wanna run Programs that enable me to play DivX movies, etc - with windows 7 I can just install K-Lite, for free, easy.
- I wanna run proper programs on it - Corel Draw with multitouch or ZBrush. will the apple store sell Zbrush to me?

these are just 3 examples, i can name you many more.....

understand what i'm saying? I don't WANT apple store apps, I want to run SOFTWARE. whatever I want, when I want.

I use windows 7, I don't need that trash on more than one device.

But there will be plenty ipad clones now so you can run that windows crap on it.

hehe, agreed, been running Windows 7 as a dual boot for a few months now. Have to say I'm not that impressed at all (as if it keeps suffering from 'performance hiccups', and I have 3GB RAM on a Dual Core 2.5, uugh). I'm back on WinXP for now. I guess it's inevitable that I'll have to switch to Win7 in future :(

Anyway, sorry for the derail. /FAIL
