Apple iPad confirmed

Will need to wait for reviews, but it seems Apple is doing the usual. Good hardware with Crippled software

1. No browser flash support
2. no multitasking - thats just crazy
3. not a X86 platform - this means that pretty soon, ASUS or someone will make a competing X86 device that will run any operating system you want.

I would like to make a prediction. After the Ipad is out in market for about 6-9 months and people start to realize its little more than a video ipod with internet connectivity, they will anounce a X86 MacOS version of it.

I dunno guys, a huge iPod touch isn't my idea of "flexible"

it would be fun to have, don't get me wrong,
I think that apple have a great idea here, but just haven't made it to it's full potential and limited it too much.

like Sapphiron says - it's crippled!

no, it's not.

If it had a proper OS it would be great - but it doesn't.

- I wanna copy my own PDF's to the iPad, not buy each book from the damn ibook store.
- I wanna run Programs that enable me to play DivX movies, etc - with windows 7 I can just install K-Lite, for free, easy.

- I wanna run proper programs on it - Corel Draw with multitouch or ZBrush. will the apple store sell Zbrush to me?

these are just 3 examples, i can name you many more.....

understand what i'm saying? I don't WANT apple store apps, I want to run SOFTWARE. whatever I want, when I want.
I can already do these on my iphone so I dont see the ipad being any different. And who is to say what apps will be ready for the ipad when it actually launches?

lol, watching the presentation:

'You can change the background!' Woooo!

'This is such an amazing device, you can, ... browse the internet! It's like holding the internet in your hands!' (Wow, I wonder what that feels like?)

Seriously, when is the real announcement?

My view on the ipad is that it's a fat itouch, it is meant to compete with netbooks I suppose and if I were to choose between the two now I would probably choose the ipad but I would prefer if it ran a proper OSX ARM port, not based on the itouch/iphone.. but I'm not really interested either way.

They should have kept the iTouch name and introduce it as a new generation iTouch IMO.

Flash is a fail, adobe still can't fix it's 64bit versions on OSX nevermind arm compatibility, HTML5 will make flash obsolete anyway once the video standards are sorted.

I hate flash as much as the next guy, but until HTML is the full standard, we are stuck with it. Meaning vendors HAVE to support it.

Clearly they dont. Judging by iPhone/iPod touch sales that decision hasn't hurt Apple all that much.

as far as I understand it is that flash can be used to run your own apps, embedded in flash, thus bypassing the AppStore completely.

Look at google voice via web page now, sure it is not flash of course but see how you are able to bypass Apple way of thinking if flash was enabled.

I think if flash gets enabled it will be locked down like crazy to retain control of devices.

Frantic Steve Jobs Stays Up All Night Designing Apple Tablet
CUPERTINO, CA—Claiming that he completely forgot about the much-hyped electronic device until the last minute, a frantic Steve Jobs reportedly stayed up all night Tuesday in a desperate effort to design Apple's new tablet computer. "Come on, Steve, just think—think, dammit—you're running out of time," the exhausted CEO said as he glued nine separate iPhones to the back of a plastic cafeteria tray. "Okay, yeah, this will work. This will definitely work. Just need to write 'tablet' on this little strip of masking tape here and I'm golden. Oh, come on, you piece of ****! Just stick already!" Middle-of-the-night sources reported that Jobs then began work on double-spacing his Keynote presentation and increasing the font size to make it appear longer

hehe, agreed, been running Windows 7 as a dual boot for a few months now. Have to say I'm not that impressed at all (as if it keeps suffering from 'performance hiccups', and I have 3GB RAM on a Dual Core 2.5, uugh). I'm back on WinXP for now. I guess it's inevitable that I'll have to switch to Win7 in future :(

Anyway, sorry for the derail. /FAIL

Strange, I installed Win7 RC on a LG laptop with 1 GB ram and single core intel centrino for my wife, it runs flawless on that old hardware.

There's no way that Core will let you have it for $499. My guess is it will be between R5500 and R9000.

What battery does this thing have :/ New generation or something? Why can I only get 4 hours out of my phone... FS

I watched the video and I must say - great little device, for everyday use. reading, surfing, movies and music, etc.

if you wanna do some real work, i guess it's just better to work on a "proper" computer with an actual keyboard and mouse

I guess this is just for the market that want a device for fun stuff, and not hectic use. it should be a great success!
