Apple iPad prices in SA

Hi hotmojo, i'm looking myself of buying Sony Reader from States. Did you buy the one with 3G and if you did please tell if the 3G works? Saw on the I-net that 3G does not work out of the States and this is the only reason why i did not buy it yet :( Tnx

Do you actually need the 3G connectivity on your e-book reader? It's a nice-to-have certainly, but is it neccessary? I've got a Sony e-book reader myself, had a friend bring it in from the UK for me, & I'm really happy with it, but of all the features I think it misses or that could be improved on, internet connectivity isn't one of them. Bigger screen, colour display, larger internal storage by all means, but if I need to download something, I can do that more than happily on my desktop or notebook, and transfer it accross to the e-reader in minutes.

On a side note, the software for the Sony e-book readers is crap. Don't even install it, and rather get the Calibre software instead. It's free, and far better.

Yes i think is nice feature to have, it is not about downloading at all. I want to be able to read my german magazine, bulgarian newspaper or some other periodic on the go. I agree i can do it on my laptop but it is much much more of a problem. But tnx for your reply.

iPad has an international warranty, as do all Apple products, so no problem there.
Do you know if anyone has had a successful warranty repair done on a overseas purchased product using Core Group? Sounds like they can't repair ipads even if they wanted to.

They can't right now, but once they start selling they're obligated to honour their warranty.

Howzit AcidRazor ... I must disagree. "Grey" is when an original product is imported and not bought through the local official channels, in essence, not allowing you a local warranty with the official channel. Although that still doesn't make the grey imports any cheaper, and I can't stand the pricing, but the terminology he used was correct, or at least that is the accepted terminology used in the industry. Regards, Itai

I must disagree with you - 'grey' means that someone has started calling names because someone else has proved that it is possible to get the same product cheaper.
