Apple iPad reviewed

People don't bash apple products - they just don't want to be associated with the crowd.
Me I'm different, I hate crap products, especially when the being heralded as the missing link between smart phones and laptops (or even netbooks) FFS! all it is, is a oversized iphone!

and spreadsheets - Check via a $10 app
They will plug the camera gap in Generation 2, that news is already leaked. And version 4 of the OS is going to fix many of the weaknesses (multi tasking etc.)
There are some other gaps. Storage. Well there is a 64GB version but I suspect Generation 2 will have a 128GB version.
1st, so you want to pay out more for an already overpriced underpowered piece of crap?
2nd? WTF sit an wait for the "2nd Generation " or even the 3rd, 4th, 5th!? Apple has grown lazy, but is still fed by idiots who pander to all their marketing schemes...

Well where do you get apps for your Nokia? The Ovi Store. Which is a copy of the App store.
LOL its called the internet, I know daddy jobs doesn't want to out in the big scary internet (with no flash and all that) :p but amazingly, before we had child friendly/nanny stores, we used to find free apps of the internet! how amazing is that!? :p
on a serous note: why have we got the the Ovi and Android stores? for the zombie market they are trying to steal from apple

iPad is jus a wonderful device.browsing is awesome.... If any of u get a chance then come thru to vodacom iMagine nd play around with one... Only problem is the exposed screen,it feels so delicate and u have to worry about 'what if I drop it' 'what if what if'....only if it could fold up like a laptop. Nd no USB ports????so it means I can only connect at work,or il have to get a wifi device or router:-( but besides that * clap* clap* clap* clap*

Lite?

Of all the words I can think of to describe the iPad, lite is NOT one of them.
That thing is like a brick. I challenge anyone to hold it arm extended for more than 5 minutes.
Even in 2 hands it starts getting uncomfortable fast.

got my hands on one briefly in our office on Wednesday ( somebody knows someone who had a buddy who had a contact...etc), it really is a glorified Iphone. while it is rather cool, naturally being an Apple product, and it certainly seemed the smooth operator, I still couldnt see myself getting one.... I already have an Iphone and a really competent Dell Laptop...which has a keyboard...dvd..all the rest. other than being a "nice to have" I cant see it replacing your laptop as your primary device. It's a cool toy....but to me...not a must have or an essential item...but if you gave me one....sure as heck I'd be a happy chappy.

IMO there are any number of netbooks I would have over an iPAD.

It. Is. Not. A. Netbook.

Jirre.

Awesome post - thanks for the supplemental review. I am personally quite interested in the home automation/remote functionality. Are you using any of these types of apps?

I have been keen since I first heard of it but I honestly could not find a reason to have one apart from: WANT!

If this can replace the universal remote while allowing for a bit of coffee table surfing/email checking etc. I may just be able to justify it ;)

I will be in Chicago in 4 weeks time. The 3G model will be out then, with it's microsim. Does anyone know, if I bought a 3G iPad there, if it will work here when Vodacom and MTN move over to the micro-sim ? I don't want to buy a non 3G iPad, then kick myself for not having the flexibility of a portable 3G device. IMHO I think that the iPad with only wireless as a means to connecting to the internet, makes it a really nice over sized iTouch, albeit an amazing interface. The 3G iPad will be the only iteration I would ever purchase.

Apparently even your current sim will work, it does however need to be cut up a bit... that or I missed the sarcasm tags when reading that post.

I'm not really annoyed with anything come toi think of it - got a cheap 2nd hand 5800XM and it does more than most apple products can do.

Uhm, that was not misinformed or ignorant (aka appletude) - I actually provided a link to where I quoted from and I think you will agree, GSM Arena does know a thing or two about portable devices.

Thing about gsmarena, they actually tried one before giving an opinion. You on the other hand seem motivated by something else entirely. Claiming that your nokia does more than "most apple products" just highlights your bias and lack of knowledge on the subject. I agree with slinkymike, why are you sooooo annoyed by all things apple? In the past you have made contradictory statements, sometimes claiming its the hardware you hate, other times saying the hardware is ok but its apple users you despise. To me this points to deeper psychological issue, not one based on anything rational. Maybe its a type of self loathing that creates the need to constantly try and prove that nokia is the ultimate product...?

Apple products are good - but looking at their spec sheets it is clear they do less than nokia devices - those are facts. I am not sure why you aregue against it. Seriously, if you have to haxzor the thing for it to be useful how smart is it to begin with ?
The problem with apple is not the devices - its the appletude - Steve Jobs has it and so does most apple users - and that is what makes people like me dis apple at every opportunity.

Fanboys will be fanboys...

Fanbois are one thing - and in a way I can relate to them - but when the guy at the top of a company acts like one of them you just know - they have a serious appletude problem.

what do you expect? Jobs things he is a fusking god... somebody should go cut him...

Yeah ok, confirmed. Its a psychological thing.
I don't bash other products. Had a brief stint of trying it in your n8 thread for a bit of fun, but its not my forte. Hell I'm not even a fanboy, iphone is not my phone of choice. I do love my ipad though.

As for your whole specs thing, specs on paper do not convince me of anything. I make my assessment after living with a device, and make my opinions based on experience. If you'd had any experience of the products you aimlessly bash I'd have some respect for your opinion. At the moment though I find it extremely difficult to take you seriously.

Fair enough - but I am pretty sure that if you see on paper 3megapixel VS 12megapixel that the real life experience will be at least 4 times better on the 12megapixel device.
Likewise if it says HDMI out on paper the quality of the output will be better than the device that just has TV-Out.

So while firsthand experience and user impressions do count when debating a device (even though they are not measurable) you will find that they are influenced by specs.

User experience is measurable.
But the thing is, you want to decide what's important for other people. Sounds very Steve Jobs to me.

No - I don't mind people deciding on a device that needs to be jailbroken - just as long as they know its inferior to other devices and not superior as the common appletude is around here.
