As ever, news and rumours about those handsets have been leaking out for months, giving us a significant insight into the makeup of the handsets. Now, we've had another look at the cases for the iPhone 17 Pro models – and it's certain to cause a stir.

The new design features a long, thick camera bar at the top of the handset. It's not entirely dissimilar to the camera bump found on the Google Pixel 9, though this one is notably taller.

That sees the camera modules themselves remain in their usual place on the left-hand side of the device, while the flash and LiDAR scanner have moved over to the right-hand side. It's certainly an unusual look from the brand, which has only really made minor revisions to its handset design for the last eight years.

Quite why the change has been made is unclear. Elongating the raised section would offer more space for those cameras – particularly the new periscope telephoto sensors which take up more space.

Of course, it could also be to appease the legions of users who bemoan the unbalanced nature of the current one-sided camera bump. The new design would certainly stop the device from rocking back and forth when placed on a surface.

I mean at least it would balance it out.

Also adds a slight angle for all these people who allegedly use it flat on desks.

This is how I picture them every time they need to use FaceID. Unless they pick up the phone each time to unlock it.

I mean people moan about how FaceID doesn’t work when flat, and I’ve tested it because I read this all the time but don’t use my phone like that and it works just fine.

What doesn’t work is how do you use the screen or keyboard for anything really.

Yeah the angle it works at even on my old iPhone 11 Pro is pretty wide. Only gripe I have is that it won't work when the phone is rotated, but the 12 and up this behaviour is fixed.

I just use Screen Mirroring if I need to glance at anything on my phone for any period of time while at my desk.

Jeez are we at 17 already? Feels like it was last year I bought a 14 PM...

Oh well, still going strong and no need to throw away money for now.

These upgrade cycles move fast, but if your 14 PM’s still a beast, no rush to switch. Ride it out 😄

Always a good thing:

This would look good but that ram thing is unbelievable. Well with AI these days chances are these are fakes

Glad to see a RAM upgrade is coming, I think with the increase in RAM we can expect major Apple Intelligence upgrades that may be exclusive to iPhone 17/17 Pro, along with the Camera seeing a jump in functionality and features.

Wasn’t the 16 series advertised as “built for Apple Intelligence”? They still need to deliver on that. Exclusive features released a year later would likely lead to some backlash.

My wife and I are both on iPhone 12's - so we will be upgrading I think.

I don’t even know what the iPhone 16 tagline is anymore as I believe they backpedaled after the mess they made with Apple Intelligence.
Also, the one Apple Intelligence exclusive feature, Visual Intelligence, that came with the iPhone 16 range ended up being given to iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max as well, so it’s safe to say the iPhone 16 release cycle has been a bit of a crapshow.

Apple will be looking to redeem themselves now at WWDC 25 with iOS19 as well as in September when the iPhone 17 lands, the release of Apple Intelligence has been almost as disastrous for them as the Apple Maps release, so there is a lot at stake, they are going to want to completely forget about the current release cycle and move quickly along, so I get the feeling we will see a lot of “glitter”, some of it may trickle down to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16, to keep people happy but then the 17s will probably get one or two exclusives.

iPhone 17 series dummy units star in a hands-on video, check out how thin the Air is

We've already seen a hands-on video showing a mold of the upcoming iPhone 17 Air compared to its peers, as well as images depicting iPhone 17 series dummy units. So, logically, the next step in this leak saga is a hands-on video of the dummies, and that's exactly what we have for you today. So grab some popcorn and hit Play below.

These seem to be the same light-colored dummy units that have previously starred in leaked images, but of course a video is much better since it can showcase all possible angles.

The star of the show is unsurprisingly the insanely thin iPhone 17 Air, rumored to be just 5.65mm thick, which makes it barely thicker than its USB-C port.

As you may know already, the iPhone 17 Air is replacing the iPhone 16 Plus, as that has been the worst-selling model in the range for a few years now. Whether the thinness will make the Air more successful remains to be seen, but undoubtedly Apple will heavily lean into marketing its "revolutionary" and "innovative" thinness as it's prone to do.

Should’ve used all that camera room for another lens on the Pro for 10x zoom.

I can’t see how Apple will avoid another Bendgate saga. Even with strong materials, the amount of materials left to work with is not much at all.
