Apple iPhone 17 thread

I suppose there is close to zero chance there will be any base iPhone 17's offered at a discount via local Black Friday sales?

Outright 'cash' purchase is the way to go as opposed to on contract via any of the networks?

100% not a chance. Maybe on older iPhone models - but guaranteed there will be no Black Friday deals on the 17, especially when there is limited supply and heavy demand.

Insane that people are still not receiving their units, the demand for the 17 range seems to be incredibly higher than previous generations.

Still nobody here talking about getting the iPhone Air, lol, we South Africans have been so swak towards that particular model, if you order the Air you will probably get it same day, lmao!

I actually got the iPhone Air a couple of weeks ago, super happy with it and it fits in perfectly with my lifestyle. I don’t really use the camera much, the single speaker is perfect for me when I’m not using headphones and I did get the Apple Magsafe battery pack. When the phone is just lying on the desk and not in use, I keep it on the battery pack, so the juice is taken from the pack first before it even touches the phone battery. Obviously whenever I want to use the phone, the battery pack comes off, otherwise there’s no point in getting a slim phone.

Someone at work did iStore on Vodacom - October 25th. Still being told no stock, now it may be another month... I don't know why we have stock issues i don't see it in the news in other countries?
There was a typhoon in China which apparently slowed down all production and exporting

Smaller battery than all the other models, not to mention the singular camera, I feel like people in South Africa just buy iPhone for the camera quality, atleast thats what I hear from other people when they ask me nicely to take pictures for them

Is it even appealing? When I look at iPhone Air, it's like I am looking at iPhone XR 🥱

Is it only via the cellular networks on contract that getting stock of the base 17 is an issue? Apple store and Incredible connection by all appearances show stock as being available, and even on Amazon ZA there appears to be stock if buying the phone outright.

I'm on my third week now of "wait until Friday to see if you get from the stock that arrives" - Vodacom

Has anyone tried doing the iStore finance option?
What's your guys take on that option?

Finally someone on the forum who got it!
Congratulations and enjoy it 🥳
Glad it fits your lifestyle well, I think it fits a lot of people especially if they get over the battery anxiety aspect, especially those who want a large screen in a lite weight form factor.

So in terms of Camera it seems the Air is quite decent but of course doesn’t have the diversity of lenses that the base iPhone and Pro iPhones have, the main Camera seems to be the same Sony IMX904 as the base iPhone (smaller sensor than IMX903 in Pro models).

I think it has some appeal to a niche audience, I would have expected to see more creatives going for it and people who love minimalism in general.
It is not for me personally, but definitely has its people.

Note that I got the battery pack, not because of poor battery, but just for the longevity of the overall Battery Health.

We might not see another iPhone Air again, so I want to enjoy this for as long as I possibly can.

That makes sense, if rumours are to be believed the next Air will only land in 2027…but you never know with Apple, I mean look at the likes of Mac Pro and iPhone SE, they have wild release times, but have loyal fan bases.

Are there any Vodacom reps on this forum? I'm getting tired of the whole "wait until next friday" spiel now for the last 5 weeks. They receive iPhone 17 stock every Friday, and at this point it seems like the whole country wants one, atleast that is how they make it out to be. One can only assume they give priority to certain people that's why they don't have a fixed allocation list of which customer gets it when. I guess they have me by the balls.
