Apple iPhone 17 thread

Are there any Vodacom reps on this forum? I'm getting tired of the whole "wait until next friday" spiel now for the last 5 weeks. They receive iPhone 17 stock every Friday, and at this point it seems like the whole country wants one, atleast that is how they make it out to be. One can only assume they give priority to certain people that's why they don't have a fixed allocation list of which customer gets it when. I guess they have me by the balls.
That is truly insane!
Definitely sounds like they are giving certain people priority.

Have they begun charging you for the phone on your contract?

They have not, they only do it once the courier shows delivered. They always tell me I can cancel at any time and go to an iStore or a nearby Vodacom store and order it through there, but I have no iStore close. If I cancel I just sit in the same process all over again so what is the difference.

Have you tried getting on the priority list by offering a bribe?

Colleague of mine went to iStore to get a 17 Pro Max today…sold out!
He settled on a Blue 17 Pro instead.

Truly insane that the Pro Max remains so difficult to get at most stores in early December when it was released in September. I could understand if it’s due to Christmas shopping but the fact that since September, each month after that it has been difficult to get one is astounding.

I requested another 4 iPhone 17's from Cellucity for work 2 weeks ago. Account manager said earliest ETA is end of next week. Stock is severely limited. Never had these issues with any other iPhone models before.

its crazy that the stock is so limited.

I just received a SMS from Vodacom / SkyNet that my order will be with me soon!!! That's after placing a order 24 October.

I agree that the hole Vodacom back order system is totally messed up BS, that's exactly what I told them on Tuesday when I lost my sh&t with them a bit, I told them it's clear that they are not working on a first come, first served basis and their inventory systems is messed up.
They called me yesterday to appologize, saying I've been waiting very long so when they receive the next stock on Friday, my order will be prioritised. Just shows you, it's not even Friday but it seams they miraculously have stock now.

Report says iPhone Air is losing its resale value at a record pace

The iPhone Air is shaping up to be a sales flop, and that’s also translating to its resale value. A new report from SellCell analyzed the depreciation of the iPhone 17 series based on trade-in price data from over 40 US-based buyback companies over a ten-week period. Based on the data, the Air has already lost between 40.3% and 47.7% of its initial value, depending on the storage trim.

The 256GB base model iPhone Air, which has an MSRP of $999, is now 40.3% cheaper on the used market. The 512GB trim (MSRP $1,199) lost 45% of its initial value, while the 1TB model, which retails for $1,399, will only get you $668 right now – that’s a 47.7% difference. Note that the iPhone 16 Plus with 128GB of storage lost a similar 41.6% of its initial value for the same ten-week period last year, while the vanilla 128GB iPhone 16 was sitting at -44.2% for the same period.

iPhone 17 Pro units will be used during the Major League Soccer final

Apple and the US MLS soccer organisation have partnered to include iPhone 17 Pro in the broadcast of the Inter Miami vs Vancouver Whitecaps final.

Four iPhone 17 Pro units will join the more than 30 cameras in broadcasting and streaming live from behind the goal and in the crowd to capture fans and their reactions.

Whenever you see the feed from one of the phones, there'll be a "Shot on iPhone" tag on the screen.

MLS has reportedly been testing iPhones in its workflow for months leading up to the final. Its engineers have reportedly validated the iPhone's latency, heat behaviour, wireless stability, and sync.

The iPhone was chosen, in part, because of its integrated ProRes workflow, which will allow the MLS team to color-match the iPhone's footage to its broadcast.

It's both a testament to the iPhone's robust video capabilities but also to Apple's marketing value to organizations such as MLS. Let's be real, the iPhone isn't a match for the high-end broadcasting equipment organizations like the MLS use, both in terms of image quality and streaming reliability.

Congratulations 🥳 Finally!
Truly insane that it has taken this long…makes me wonder if some people have been paying extra to get ahead in terms of priority.

Mine got on the truck yesterday, I ordered on the 5th of November
Absolutely insane, one shouldn’t have to wait so long…I understand that the demand for the 17 range has been high but if I remember correctly the iPhone X also had insane demand at launch, my mother even cancelled her Vodacom order a month after ordering and went to iStore to go buy it cash, but by mid-December stock was available (X had a delayed launch sometime in early Nov), Vodacom were just weird with managing stock for it.

The iPhone 11 range (partially) and iPhone 12 range stock was stifled by Covid-19 with factories halting work but both managed to normalise quickly.
