Apple iPhone 17 thread

I’m aetting up an iPhone 17 and wondering the best setting for the battery.

I charge overnight on a wireless stand and have a MagSafe case. My 15 pro is 560 cycles and was just set to 100% since day 1, I got it the day they released. So 2 years and 4 months ago and it’s at 86%. The drop in screen time has been noticeable so now I’m just wondering best way to prolong the life for a new phone from a new day 1.

So do you guys set a percentage like 80% or so, or just click on optimised charging and let the phone deal with it?
I just set it to optimised. 80% limit don't make much difference.
I now have two years of data with my ‌iPhone‌ limited to an 80 percent charge, and I don't think it's been worth it. My coworker who also has a 16 Pro Max did not have an 80 percent charge limit set, and his battery capacity is 96 percent with 308 charge cycles.

Maybe setting an 80 percent limit improves battery health over a longer period of time, but over a one-year period, the results have been disappointing. Setting charging to a 90 or 95 percent might make more sense.

That’s cryptic

And what does the evidence point to? :)
Might be seen as anecdotal but it counts in my book, MR's piece & the many many comments for '24 & '25.

YMMV of course.

Interesting, thanks. I guess after reading all that and the comments, I largely think it’s down to luck and I’m going to keep it at 100%.

I’ve never changed habits and charge the same way for years now. Go to bed, sit it in the cradle and it charges overnight. For example, my iPhone 8 was at 100% when I sold it after almost exactly a year when those batteries were largely reported as not great.

So I think on balance, starting the day on 100% is more beneficial to me than having a slightly better battery health after a couple of years.

LTT long term review of the iPhone 17 & iPhone Air

Weird I don’t have any of those bugs. You can sideload if you wanted to but there’s nothing I want to sideload. I also don’t get his screenshot complaint. I can screenshot in banking apps etc which I sometimes couldn’t do on Android. His keyboard complaint I get but it’s not enough of a big deal for me to jump back to android. Can always just install some 3rd party keyboard.

Yebo, no point in all that 80% stuff.
I simply charge as I want.

My 15 Pro Max (got it 7 October shortly after launch) was at 542 cycles and 90% battery health when I got my 17 Pro Max.
I charged the 15 PM as and when I wanted, sometimes it lived on the charger at work as I wanted the Stand By screen to show calendar appointments constantly.

I treat my 17 PM the same.
In terms of settings:
- Charge to 100%
- Optimised Charging ON
- Power Mode: Adaptive Power ON
Let the phone work it out.

The battery will degrade and it is all down to how much more capacity it has brand new versus the design capacity, for example: 17 PM (Sim version) battery design capacity is 4823mAh but typically what we get is well above that and will vary phone to phone, mine came with 4920mAh, so technically my battery health is like 102% health right now, it could be 6 months before it hits the 4823mAh level, the moment it drops under 4823 it will show 99% health.
If yours drops sooner than 6 months it means the phone came with capacity closer to design capacity, some people freak out because they don’t know that part.

I totally forgot to post this here earlier.
FYI I experienced a very annoying bug since I got my 17, eventually I decided it can't be normal so I read up a bit, turns out it was a iOS 26 bug which has already been resolved, but it requires manual intervention to fix.

I noticed while not using my phone when it lay on my bedside table or desk and a notification came through, the screen lit up and it tried to unlock, but since my face wasn't close to it, FaceID obviously failed once or twice. Then when I next picked up my phone, I had to enter my passcode, because FaceID already failed a few times. This drove me up the walls for 2 or 3 days.

This was only experienced by a small amount of users and fixed in iOS 26.2, but for it to go away, you have to manually go and reset your FaceID and learn your face again.

Howzit Guys

I received my 17 Pro on Christmas eve but seem to be having an issue with incoming network calls.
It rings twice on my end and then cuts the call.

Has anyone ever had this issue before or know what could be causing it?
Unknown caller filtering was set up on my 16 Pro, though that it was maybe that causing the issue. Turned it off on the new phone and still having the problem.

The callers aren't under blocked contacts and no focus mode is on when these calls came through.
It is also for any number that calls not just a specific contact.

Official iOS 26.2
Same physical sim card from the previous phone which had no issues
No issues with outgoing calls either.

That sounds like quite an annoying issue, haven’t experienced it on my 17PM, I wonder what caused it as features like Raise To Wake and Attention Aware Features in FaceID should mitigate this.

That is very odd, do you have TrueCaller installed? That is the only other thing I can think of outside of Focus Modes which you already mentioned was not on.

I'm "old school". Offline backup to Finder (Mac), restore on new phone.

Nothing is lost, nothing is missing in your WA (groups, messages or otherwise).

YMMV.
