Apple iPhone 5 launch plans from Vodacom and Cell C

The iPhone 5 won't cost less than R7999-00 when it hits SA on the 14th December. (If you can buy it outright)

I predict a R8499-00 price tag for the 16GB model.

At 7.6mm thick, the iPhone 5 boasts a thinner profile than the iPhone 4S and also has a larger (just taller) (4-inch) display, an improved camera, and the new “Lightning” incompatible, non-usb connector.
Added clarification for you :)

Current ZA sites list the Grey iPhone 5 16GB at R9,695.00 - R9,899.00
I hope the launch makes it more affordable to the ZA masses.

I would get this ... for the ladies (because ladies love iPhone:D), but having to convert videos and use iTunes is just a huge pain in the a$s. Ill stick with my Note till I see what the ATIV S has to offer. Android is perfect, but I just need a change.

You are either confused, or have used the wrong words.

The new Lightning connector is most definitely compatible with the iPhone 5, and it is also definitely a USB fitting on one end, perhaps you have got confused and tried to plug the USB end into the phone and the lightning end into your computers USB? ;)

Oh, and yes, it is a great improvement over the old 30 pin connector as well.

OK worked out which end goes where.
The lightning end goes into the phone.
The USB end goes into the iMac - just had to get the orientation right.
Was confused by iMAPS that was orientating incorrectly :p

With the iTunes Music Store launching in SA today as well, the iPhone is a very attractive option!

There are many apps that play video of any format, no conversion required on iPhone.

The Note stock video player plays any format? Really?

But how do you get other video formats on the phone? Does itunes not block other formats?

A lot of Apps allow data sharing via iTunes...you can put whatever you want on there (or whatever the app supports).

I prefer using Goodplayer and just connecting to my network shares directly and downloading the videos I want...no iTunes required.

My iPhone/iPad only ever gets connected to iTunes if I want to sync my music...and even that is done wirelessly.

My vote is 8player, has the best DLNA client and supports local download from the server for the road/plane.
