Apple iPhone 5 unveiled

Engadget :

That is all true.

Still just a very average phone if you look closely at everything now on the market.

I enjoyed the no-brainer reference. Rather apt description of anyone buying an iPhone.

Ugh... forgive me.

But strip the emotional interference from those reviews and perhaps drop the best or include best apple... even you, yourself stated that the maps are a 50/50 hit and miss but hey... who needs Apple maps to be accurate or as polished as Google's as long as the Applelishious animated flyover looks so smooth and awesome.

These reviewers praise this handset for the very reasons they poo-pood others for and then focus on the weight, thinness and design aesthetics. Some make a stab at a like for like review but then squewer it all with emotive unquantifiable guff.

It is appallingly obvious that most of these reviews are dripping with bias. I often wonder if Apple has some influence in them, they are that bad. They refer to every feature offered on other phones and then try to convince everyone that they are not necessary.

No... if you like the iPhone... buy it... but say you like it because you like it... your personal choice. If you are buying it because it has a higher geekbench score than an SIII or because of its laser keyboard and holographic imaging then I have a problem with that.

Without a doubt there is not another ios phone out there better than the iphone5... and it is Apples best smartphone available.

But... stop there.

Just eish! So every positive comment from Engadget, USA Today, TechCrunch, the New York Times, T3, AllThingsD, CNET and more are simply bought and paid for?

Seems to be a common denominator for all those sites listed...

Influence can take a form other than payment.

Dude, it honestly seems like a mass brainwashing, don't ask me how they do it. I read some of these reviews and i am baffled by the excuses offered for shortcomings of the device. If ANY other manufacturer had shortcomings these would be pointed out at length. It is almost like the sites don't want to dare to be seen criticising Apple.

You don't seem to remember the signal fiasco? The real brainwashing I've seen is with the swell of hatred towards Apple with regards to the patent lawsuits, understandable and I agree in a lot of respects, the patent wars are becoming so anal.

What I don't like are the Samsung ads (the legit ones obviously) where they are trying to belittle and ostracized people who use iPhones, this is a low form of marketing and feeds off the insecurities of fanboys in both parks.

Apple are marketing the phone the exact same way Samsung does with the Galaxy S3, I can't recall anybody shooting down anything that was said back then. And I know this because I got an S3 based on this. Promises of extra battery life and awesome new features have turned out to be bull**** or unusable unless you know a lot of other NFC phone users though. It's a great phone and I really like the Android ecosystem but it requires a lot of work to get it right. My iPad in comparison has just updated itself to iOS6 and doesn't drop a beat (or need restarting every day).

I doubt I'd get an iPhone5 but I find this hatred towards it unnecessary.

Dude it's Apple, they make such a huge hoo haa over a device that is not better than other flagships, they put more money into suing people and marketing than making a better phone, yes they'll even lie, it seems that there is no limit to how low they will stoop to try and impress investors.

They could very well be paying (in some way) well known tech review sites so that they can give good reviews.

Their keynotes are like a discovery of big foot or a unicorn while their internal parts are no better than other phones out there.

Yes it looks nice, yes it's a nice pretty, common, flashy phone for simple people but there is way too much hoo haa than what the device deserves.

Just look at the new 920 from Nokia, they don't pretend it's the best smartphone in the galaxy for 2012 even though it very well may be.

Erm... Some of those writers concluded they would be sticking with Android but were able to concede that the phone did have many things going for it... Something posters here are seemingly incapable of. If mass brainwashing seems more logical to you, nothing I can say at this juncture will add to this discussion.

THANK YOU. See the post above yours.

Yes because we are a species incapable of being brainwashed..

I agree that the phone does have a few things going for it, I'm a fandroid but the new iPhone is very sexy, slim and much better looking than the 4S, my favourite improvement is the 16:9 aspec ratio which has always been my biggest gripe with iPhone and then of course, iTunes being a ball & chain.

What I'm against is the attitude and hysteria that's created for this device as opposed to other devices, you'd think it's extra terrestrial parts, not to mention the ethics of the company.

Functionality wise, the 920 deserves 6 times the hype than the new iPhone but then cardiac arrests will be on the rise.

I saw a few photos of it standing alone and if you don't know about the extra line of icons on the screen (longer screen with other words), it's gonna look the same as the 4S.
I confused it a few times allready with the 4S.

As opposed to the attitude and hysteria that's created railing against this device?

I'll be getting a black 64Gig when the iPhone gets here, what colour will your Lumina be? I'm ready to take you two bets 'tho... First bet is that I'll enjoy my phone just as much as you'll be enjoying yours and we'll be getting everything we want and need from them. Second bet, you won't be defending your choice of phone on the 37th page of a MyBB thread.

LOL... Hey sand_man, guess its only the jailbreakers who aren't too busy updating to IOS6 right now posting here. :D

Appears so.

Made a promise to myself that I wouldn't be sucked into another one of these futile debates, but alas here we are.

Hopefully this biatch will be jailbroken soon and we can also have our fun!!!

How long does it normally take? I remember something about them jail breaking an update before it was released.

Would suck if they only managed to jb the new update next year.

Can you not just flash the new update or flash your old stock version to upgrade?

Like Pacino in the Godfather 3... "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in." Will you boys at iPhoneZA be hitting the refresh button all the time on the DevTeam's site like I will? ;)

Nope, not on IOS. Devs will have been working on the Gold Master (GM) release of IOS6 or a couple of days now and the GM is usually exactly the same as the final release. A tethered jailbreak will come first but its unstable and has way to many drawbacks... You have to sit on your hands and wait it out for the untethered jailbreak. The BIG issue for the new phone is that A6 chip... It took forever to exploit the A5x chip on the 4S.

.

I've updated my iPad to iOS 6 and quite frankly the new Maps app is indescribable, it is just crap and looks like Google maps of about 5 years ago.

But that won't stop me buying an iP5, why? Because the Apple Maps are actually done by TomTom so can only get better and secondly Google Maps will be a standalone download from the App Store soon.

iOS 6 is very polished overall, and quicker and slicker in use.

I'm actually contemplating an early morning queuing on Friday morning to pick up a 5, totally sad of me, and something I've never done before, but hey, it's only a few extra hours ;) and I'm coincidently off on Friday anyway.

As a mad map example, (and I've driven on this bridge, it definitely didn't feel as bumpy as it looks :D)
