This is gonna lead to even longer lead times and a larger back order book. Which will affect Apple's earnings in this quarter at least. My guess is that they will miss estimates due to these supply issues. But demand for the thing is healthy as cerebus pointed out...

Is the iPad Mini also rumored to be made of the same stuff?
 
This is what happens when artists trump engineers in design decisions. Engineers are practical people that know that a manufacturing process must be ... practical ... do-able with least amount of complexity and special training/tools. Sounds to me like the iPhone 5 design is too complex to get right on a Chinese factory floor without errors creeping in all the time. Good engineers think about these practical matters. Artists don't.

(I'm both by the way and talk from personal experience).

The iFans here (and everywhere else) might be hailing the iPhone 5 as the best thing from Apple ever ... but I get the idea Apple themselves don't believe that any more. Cook must be furious and I'm sure a number of staff members might be looking for work at competitors already.

I am not referring to advertisers here. It is apparent to most that their only aim is to sell more phones so most sift through the marketing speak and filter out the truth from the crap. I am talking about the fans of Apple who insist their device of choice is the ultimate. Hell most jumped on the thinnest phone bandwagon shortly after launch without questioning if this was in fact true. They appear to be unable to filter out the marketing speak. They lap up the repeated use of "amazing", "incredible", one of a kind and the like that get thrown around at Apple launches, and then regurgitate it.

I had a phone which had what was generally accepted as the best camera a while back. I happily insisted to all that my phone had the BEST camera. I did not tell everyone I had the best phone ever created in every single department. I know such a device does not exist. But that there is the difference between most fans of Apple and others. Most (please note I said most) seem to insist that there is nothing that even comes close to the iPhone, in ALL departments. Hell, even earlier here we had someone claiming the iPhone 5 was THE BEST cellphone camera currently available... um, anyone heard of the 808?

Yes, you will get the "my phone is perfect" crowd in all circles but they seem more prevalent in the Apple circle. Of course this is just my opinion and is based on my day to day interactions with folk who have Apple devices, both online and in real life, so this may be limited, as I do not know everyone in the world with an Apple device, but it is all anyone has to go on.

I'm not an "iFan", while I like the iphone, I also like other phones, and I have nothing against other makers.

BUT

I do feel the Galaxy S3 (as an individual item, not all Samsungs, not all Android phones, not anything but the Galaxy S3) is made from a horrible cheap feeling thin plastic, it feels as if the battery cover will break everytime you pull it off as it creaks and flexes. I never mentioned the Note 2, as I have no experience of it. I did have the Note, and it felt better made than the S3, I have the S2 and it feels better made than the S3, the original S I had feels better made than the S3.

HTC make better quality handsets than the S3, even the cheaper models, and the new Nokias like the Lumias feel better than the S3.

I am individually criticising the Galaxy S3, Samsung cut corners and used a horrible cheap shiny plastic, nothing to do with the iPhone, I am comparing it to other Android phones and even WinMo phones.

I'm not the only person who feels that way, 2 other users here, many others on the internet, even compared to other cheaper Android phones the S3 is horribly made, it might be a high specification phone, but it is not made from high quality materials.

Compare it to any other top range phone, and most people would agree.

Well to be fair HTC's are in their own league when it comes to build quality,the One X is simply the best phone to hold in hand that I have owned to date.Very very high quality.Even the One S which is a midrange device is made out of similar/better materials than the iphone 5!

Htc has really been making top quality handsets but their marketing department has let them down.
Ive owned the S3 and One X and I can think of no other reason for the S3 to outsell the One X so significantly since IMO the One X is better.Maybe its the momentum that the s3 gained from the s2 also at play since htc's solutions at the time(the sensation was pretty crap comparatively)

The OneX got slammed for poor battery life and nonremovable battery. And it is generally slower than SGS3 and has no expandable memory. Otherwise yea it's a far superior phone I'm with you on this. All those Samsung fanboys deluded by the marketing hey.
