Apple iPhone 5 unveiled

As opposed to somebody who has never held an iPhone 5 before but desperately wanting it to be a success and defending it despite much publicized flaws.
As opposed to the evidence of someone trying to replicate the flaw himself without much success. He did manage to make it flare purple though, after 25 photos taken in the right conditions (angled light source). The more constraints you need to place on the conditions needed to get the effect, the more desperate and stretching you appear, and the more it becomes just another normal camera artifact.

Sales figures and reviews alone suggest it is a success.

Morons. They've been sold out of stock of the phone since the moment it went on sale, but because it fell short of Wall Street's own expectations (they basically predicted it would save the US economy), it's a disappointment and they're selling Apple stock. Most ridiculous thing I ever heard, totally out of sync with market demand.

I'm always pretty shocked at the disparity between the analysts' evaluations of Apple and the real market performance. It's one reason you can't really ever lose out buying Apple stock - it's been sold cheap for the last 10 years.

Your defense of even the slightest hint of any Apple criticism has become rather laughable.

What I find even more laughable is how great Apple are at turning anything into a sales gimmick. They are at lengths to tell everyone that the iPhone 5 is the fastest selling, most demanded, iPhoneever... and yes, the word iPhone is tiny as that is the way it is portrayed. They are reluctant, cleverly so, to not make comparisons with other phones out there. They need to maintain the illusion of greatness. The iPhone 4S apparently had 4 million preorders. Apple sung from the rooftops that they had 5 million iPhone 5 preorders. Their fans cheered about it being the fastest selling phone ever, conveniently dropping the iPhone tag from the statement. The Galaxy S3 had preorders of 9 million! A landslide win over Apple but a number that not every second Fandroid feels the need to tell every single person they come in contact with.

Arguments can be put forward about supply chains and meeting demand blah blah blah but do other manufacturers not have these same issues and should the "world's greatest ever" company not foresee these and make contingency plans.

PS And many on Wall Street probably have very expensive reasons to ensure Apple maintains it's value... almost certain a number of them have strong holdings of Apple stocks.

Seems you were suddenly there to monitor the entire process as you seem to know the exact circumstances and conditions. Funny how you are allowed to be an absent expert but those talking against Apple need to have held the iPhone themselves first before commenting.

If you claim a product is perfect then expect to have people criticise it when it is not. That is the lesson to be learnt.

You can criticize Apple all you like. Goodness knows they deserve criticism on a number of valid fronts. But their financial performance is astonishing. And there has always been a huge disparity between Wall Street's valuation and their net worth. I can't figure out why it is, it's like they all lose their minds. Only in the past year did it start to reflect true value, and investors are still panic-selling.

Funny how I'm the one who's so laughably desperate to defend Apple when you're demanding micron angle precision to prove that the fault exists.

I merely mentioned that the photos I had seen showing the purple flare reflected different scenes to any of those shared by the person attempting to disprove the issue. You seemed to find this a highly offensive thing to say. Of course, not being a huge fan boy, I have not trawled the net looking for every single image reflecting the purple flare but based my statement on the ones I had seen.

Basically you're defending your uninformed opinion..

I don't find it offensive, where on earth you get that impression from?

But I think you're mistaken that he is trying to disprove the issue. He said he went out of his way to try to make it happen, and showed the one example from his samples where it did happen. Now he's going to produce another whole set of images in different conditions for us. But you just don't seem willing to give him benefit of the doubt. If I had an iPhone5 I'd do the same thing - take batch photos in every possible condition, analyse them and report on the severity of the output. I'm fully aware that there is some tendency towards exaggerated lens flare, but I'm not sure it's anything so drastic that it would dampen what otherwise looks like a pretty great cameraphone. In fact in most reviews it's rated to be the best camera out there until the 920 arrives, which will solidly demolish anything else.

Yeah, this sounds like the response of a person who took no offense

Or you could just be talking out of your patootie having never held an iPhone5 but wanting so desperately for it to be flawed.

Anyway I am over this specific back and forth. I will continue to add input where I feel as tech is a subject that interests me.

Well that settles that then. Apple's success is due to people buying anything Apple makes.

You have to admit there's a sliver of truth to that sentiment. You might not fit the mould, but there's a large swathe of the Apple faithful for whom having an iPhone (or iPod or iWhatever) has become a part of their identity - they will plonk their money down on the next iteration regardless of its actual worth.

Those abject morons camping outside Apple stores for days before release... Those people...

Sorry, it seems there is one final thing to challenge here. I have seen many reviews too and it seems that the conclusion depends on the bias of the reviewer. Here is one which obviously says what I like. no doubt you will find one, probably on a site like weloveiphones.com, that states it is the best phone ever.

The iPhone 5's camera is a significant improvement from the iPhone 4S both in terms of image and video quality. It holds its own compared to the Samsung Galaxy S III—the top camera on a smartphone people are actually going to buy. Still, there's a lot of room for improvement. Apple really needs to add additional settings for darker conditions. Yes, our low-light test was extreme, but Apple can and should do better. In short, the iPhone 5 camera is better, and as before, it's suitable for snapshots. But if you're serious about good-looking memories, you should keep a point-and-shoot around. We're dreaming someday Apple will adopt a camera as good as the 808 PureView or the Canon S100. Sigh, someday.

This review also mentions the 808 which makes your comments laughable again. There is no way the iPhone 5 is anywhere near the best camera phone.

Oh man they exist for certain. There is a highly dedicated cult of devotees out there. It's not the basis of Apple's success though, not even closely. The growth numbers are just way way too high to make that kind of statement. It doesn't stand up to the tiniest bit of scrutiny and makes the poster look like a sock puppet.

Yeah, this sounds like the response of a person who took no offense
What are you blabbering about? I said I didn't take offense and saying that makes me look even more like I did take offense? I'm glad you don't have any real power.

I think 80% of people keep buying apple because they have spent thousands of bucks on apps and don't want to see it flushed down the drain when moving to a new eco system.... the other 20% are the guys who camp outside.

I'm more going on DPReviews and Pocket Lint's review. Even the review you give there is very positive. No mention of flare anywhere to be seen. All professional camera sites, quite unbiased.
In a smartphone-only camera context, there are only a handful of contenders to consider, none of which has the current range of features on offer here. It’s in Nokia’s hands now to see what the Lumia 920 can pull off, as, for our money, the iPhone 5 is only bettered - at the time of writing - by the 808 PureView's clever tech and large sensor.

It also mentions the 808 which makes your comments laughable again. There is no way the iPhone 5 is anywhere near the best camera phone.
No, you're absolutely right the Pureview 808 camera is miles better than iPhone5's. It's unbelievably good, almost too good to be a real phone. But that makes the iPhone5 the SECOND best which, yes, is very near the best cameraphone, and the best that people will actually be likely to buy.

It is positive. A not so subtle difference though, they do not call it the best camera phone in existence.

There you go again. I thought we just concluded above that it is a decent camera but we in no way concluded that it was the clear second best.

As you like. I'm still waiting for you to show me one review where the flare is pointed out as an issue though.

My hat... once again:

But for objectivity let's aggregate some reviews from Google search:
Cnet: iPhone 5.
Autoomobile low-light shootout: Pureview 808/920 followed by iPhone5 and distantly by OneX and SGS3.
Mashable: iPhone5
