Apple does not do much innovating themselves. They merely take what others develop and put their spin on it. Of course some would claim they "perfect" it (a term used very loosely here) but they rarely come up with something truly unique (but I'm sure the fans will eagerly correct me here :) )

IMO molehill, I went out as the sun went down and took a sequence of about 25 photos, I only managed to induce a purple artefact in one photo.

Truth. My understanding is that the light source needs to be just out the photo, not in it, or just peeking in. Only one of the sample photos seems to come close to mimicking this and there appears to be roof partly in the way.

I had some with the sun out of the photo altogether, and had nothing, even more of a silhouette. I'll take some more tomorrow and try again as I've deleted the rest from my phone. From no sun all the way to the sun in the middle of the photo, the one above was the only one I got it in.
 
I see purple lens flare in that last pic. Thát sometimes become big = the issue.

Well, the S3 is selling well - probably better - since the court drama ... and chances are good that the thing will be overturned as the evidence that now comes out proves what many of us suspected = a farce. The jury messes up by making the foreman their legal advisor and Apple's legal team lied by twisting "evidence" out of context. If their is no retrial then I will have no faith in the US judicial system (and wouldn't want to live/work under such a system). Time to clean this mess up.

Or you could just be talking out of your patootie having never held an iPhone5 but wanting so desperately for it to be flawed.
 
No no I'd recognize that crepuscular fake-sunlight and bare trees and damp hilly pastureland anywhere. No place like it on this earth.

Interesting. So I have to have held an iPhone 5 before I'm allowed to view, and judge, photos taken with it. Ok. This elite little club seems to have just become even more elite.

Well yes, or at least have heard from someone who has an iPhone5 themselves. In this case someone on the forum has an iphone5, is trying without much success to replicate this damnable manufacturing flaw, and you just don't believe him because he isn't holding it just precisely the right way to get the flare - a judgement based on absolutely nothing, since you've never used the phone.

Nobody ever denied that the iPhone5 can produce purple fringed photos. The question we're trying to figure out is, is this more severe than any other cameraphone/handheld camera, and just how prevalent is it really? Is it a flaw or a normal artifact?

Morons. They've been sold out of stock of the phone since the moment it went on sale, but because it fell short of Wall Street's own expectations (they basically predicted it would save the US economy), it's a disappointment and they're selling Apple stock. Most ridiculous thing I ever heard, totally out of sync with market demand.

I'm always pretty shocked at the disparity between the analysts' evaluations of Apple and the real market performance. It's one reason you can't really ever lose out buying Apple stock - it's been sold cheap for the last 10 years.

As opposed to somebody who has never held an iPhone 5 before but desperately wanting it to be a success and defending it despite much publicized flaws.
