Are you running the original firmware, or a custom rom?
I wouldn't be able to tolerate lag/stuttering on my devices. I would for sure never have worked with my SGT10.1 or Notes if that was the case ... I would then for sure have stuck with Apple. Stuttering anything on my devices drives me insane, incl on my computers. I will not rest until I find the cause.
Cerebus, if I was you I would do a complete clean of the tablet (everything) and re-load the original firmware and see what happens. When I got my Note 1 out of the box it was slow. I did a factory reset and to my surprise more apps were installed than my phone came out with ... and the device performed much better. I get the idea things at the factory happens too fast and devices get switched off before the firmware installs are completed. I've seen this happen twice with Samsung devices.

I'm running the original firmware, there aren't any custom roms for this model tablet yet or I'd have loaded JB by now.
The one major primo culprit is a bit obscure but it's the only one I can't live without - Isilo. Runs buttery loveliness on any iOS device all the way back to the original iPhone 3G; and been quite inept on Android for the same length of time. I've seen similar apps do the same thing though.

That is where the "fragmentation" issue comes in. Different OEM's with different firmware and market penetration levels. I've always been a Sony fanboy and would love to own their tablet and phone products ... but it has limited custom support. Samsung is always a safe bet for customisation ... but they cannot design like Sony. Sony products always stand out.

Following private support e-mail, Apple posts a document that recommends owners tilt their camera lens away from light sources to prevent flares from appearing on images.
After privately telling an iPhone 5 user that the purple halo sometimes produced by the device's camera was due to how they were framing photos, Apple has gone public with suggestions for preventing the flare on images.
Soon after the device went on sale last month, owners began complaining of a purple color showing up on the edges of photos, an issue that typically occurs when a light source is immediately nearby, though it can occur even when the light is off frame. It can also affect both photos and videos.
Earlier this month, an AppleCare support representative responding to an iPhone 5 owner's complaint about the issue said the purple flare was "considered normal behavior" for the devices camera and suggested: "Our engineering team just gave me this information and we recommend that you angle the camera away from the bright light source when taking pictures."
Now the iPhone maker has followed up by posting a public support document that recommends similar action to combat the issue:

Many years ago I had a small Sony camera that exhibited this exact problem....and Sony replaced the camera with a newer one.
Mmmm..... wonder if this problem can be fixed by a software patch.

Apple update automatically crops all purple flares from pic at shutter press.

I could actually imagine that guy sucking off his iPhone while he wrote that crap.
Yes it is a good phone but going on like it is the second coming of Steve Jobs is a bit much. The maps screwup will be able to be fixed via software, the purple haze problems that seems to bother everybody except these reviewers doesn't even get mentioned and will not be able to be fixed with software for now.
Maybe he tilted his camera away from all the light sources when he was reviewing the camera.

Solid review.
I'm a bit torn over whether I'll take this for my next upgrade or not (am due now).
The lack of a jailbreak and the scuffing issues are disconcerting.
The purple haze isn't a deal breaker, neither is the bending issue some users have encountered but that doesn't help to evoke confidence in the product.

Guess you didn't notice that he originally slated the iPhone5 perhaps not quite as badly as you but he was pretty disenamoured with it in the beginning.
I'm still trying to figure out if the purple haze is real or just another mountain/molehill situation. There is a purple haze but it doesn't appear particularly worse than any other cellphone camera out there. DPReview's camera assessment said it wasn't a problem, and they're quite unbiased.

If it's scuffed, return it. Purple haze is seriously overinflated. It's been jailbroken already just waiting for full release. Maps are a big deal but for me, I won't be getting this for a loong time so it'll be fixed by then.
Rather let's say what other phones would you be looking at? Do you consider them to be better overall than iPhone5? If so then I'd suggest getting them rather.
