Apple is working on touchless controls for iPhones

Of course they are. I'm sure they have prototypes for some pretty mind-bending stuff if you could get into their labs.

Like the Samsung Galaxy S4 had 5 years ago?

No, not like that.

The feature would be based on technology built into the display itself rather than via a motion sensor on the phone’s bezel, like with Samsung’s implementation, the person explained.

Try again.

Gestures is gestures, whether you're shaking a bottle or jerking off, it's still a gesture motion.

So by that definition gesturing with your finger on the screen would be the same as gesturing without touching the screen...

EDIT: And FWIW neither of those are gestures, they're actions.

I don't think Apple is aiming to include this soon, if ever. All they need to do with the next round of iPhones is have tiny bezels (similar to S9) and the navigation of iPhone X. And much better cameras.

If they don't introduce a notch in the regular phones I'll consider an iPhone as my next phone.
